Honestly, sane people would never use a film as a reasoning for hatred. However, we know that those who would be ruled by their hatred on reasons as simple as skin color and language are often not classified as sane people. If this movie accurately portrays what was written in the Bible, then there will be nothing in it we haven't seen on an Easter Sunday in church when we were kids. I think the only new and interesting part will be that it is in the languages of the people who actually lived that time period. At least for me, that would be the real drawing power of the movie, but then as a linguist, I'm slightly biased.
Anyone who would profess to be a Christian should be able to understand the meaning of the phrase "God's Will", AKA, Fate. If it was fated that Jesus die, then it was going to happen, Jews or not. It could just as easily have been the Romans who got the historical backlash from this one simple act, which, according to all written Christian Texts, was going to happen no matter what anyone wanted. As far as I care to place blame, I place it one the Space monkey Anteaters, since they didn't come down and save Jesus with their vastly superior intelligence and technology. If anyone couldn't tell, that was sarcasm, which is how I choose to respond to people too dimwitted to understand the greater meanings and messages surrounding religious and/or historical events.
Religion will always be used as an excuse for one man to burn down anothers house. That is because it is so easy to use, and for some reason never seems to get old. The funny thing is that in this category it has much company, greed, lust, pride, being just a few examples. It is harder to find it's cohorts when it is used to build others up, to heal wounds and bring people together, which is also its power.

It is strange that any christian would decide to kill anyone....for any reason.
But thats probably only me. anyone and everyone can justify killing someone at sometime.
so is it going to be movie hype driven or just some scum bag with a twisted mind...well probably both. _________________ Only in America......do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering. |

Indeed, well said.
I'd just like to add that movements like this tend to remove any hope I have for the general public being intellectually responsible. Jesus was a Jew that was killed by Jews. Is something missing in that statement? Should someone elaborate this point? Jeez... |

Here's another take.
Christians believe Jesus was God, the whole father, son holy spirit trinity. So can God be killed? If God is all powerful and he was Jesus, how could anyone kill him. It doesn't say he was killed in the bible, he just says "it is finished" and then dies. If one believes in this than God/Jesus gave up his life exactly when he wanted to. |

Quote: | I think mass media like movies can influence lots of people. |
My own Mother, who's Christian, as example, was yesterday acting like Jews were some horrible people who should be shown Scorn and be treated badly because of this Jeebus killing. This is how I know people will be affected by this; she never says anything religious, then this whole movie issue comes up, and she begins to make it an issue.
I think it can cause people to become incensed, maybe not limited to anti-semetic, but anti-everything else that isn't Christian. Religious revival can only spell bad news for the sciences and progress; advancement of humanity endangered. _________________ World of Warcraft:

I have to agree with ROOFCUTTER that the idea that because the Jewish religious leaders 2000 yrs ago chose to crucify the Lord is a basis for hatred toward Jewish people today is the height of irrationality.
I completely fail to undertand the sentiment of those that want to hate Jewish people as a result of the crucifying of Jesus:
1. Jesus himself said from the cross, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." [Luke 23:34] If the perfect God-man pronounced forgiveness upon them (all people) then what hubris for any of us to fail to forgive them.
2. Jesus and the apostles were also Jews (hello people). So I supose that we should hate Jesus and the apostles also by this reasoning. The only way around this for them that I can see, is to say that it is not Jewish people (race) that they are proposing we hate, but instead they are proposing that we hate those who hold fast to the Jewish religion - so see point 1!
3. Jesus himself said that he came to die for the sins of the world (oh yeah 'cept Jewish people who put him to death - NOT!!!!!). No qualifiers, it was for the WHOLE WORLD, even those who had him crucified! Again see His statement in point 1!
In case you don't understand what I am getting at, forgiveness is the core of true Christianity. To fail to forgive, although it is our inclination, is completely counter to Biblical Christianity.

What you say has truth in it. Scripture said that he was led as a Lamb to the slaughter - he did not open his mouth in protest. Jesus also says in Matt 26:53 "Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?"
Nevertheless, the agent of the death that he allowed himself to suffer was the Sanhedrin (Jewish religious leaders) and the authority of Rome (in Pontus Pilate). God made all things and works within the laws that he created. Jesus body was a human body, but he died much sooner than expected. I believe, as you suggest, it was because he gave up his life when he chose to. But, if anyone is to hold them responsible it must be God himself and no other. No-one else has any standing to hold them to account.
The Parable of the Unmerciful Servant - Matthew 18:23-35
"Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand talents was brought to him. Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt.
"The servant fell on his knees before him. 'Be patient with me,' he begged, 'and I will pay back everything.' The servant's master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go.
"But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii. He grabbed him and began to choke him. 'Pay back what you owe me!' he demanded.
"His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, 'Be patient with me, and I will pay you back.'
"But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. When the other servants saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed and went and told their master everything that had happened.
"Then the master called the servant in. 'You wicked servant,' he said, 'I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. Shouldn't you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?' In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.
"This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart."

Although it may influence some people to the wrong idea, it will not create any significant problems. There will probably be some person who beats up a jewish person after seeing the movie, but you hear stuff like that after any radically different movie. The kinds of people it will influence will be little kids who don't know any better and people who are already anti-semitic.
I think it will be a very interesting movie and although I'm not very Christian I am excited to see it. |

all of you make great points. i think that anyone who would engage in anti-semetic behavior is going to regardless of a movie. those people will do what they do no matter what, even if a movie came out showing how amazing the jewish race is, so the movie doesn't raise anti-jewish sentiment, it just brings in into the media spotlight more. _________________
