Need more info.
Are you running adminmod?? Did you add the map name to your maps.ini file if you are running adminmod?? Are you entering the map name correctly??
I could go on forever with these questions but what I think you are looking for are answers, not more questions. Give some more info on what you have and I may be able to start giving answers instead. _________________

I need more info for the first one, but I think I can answer the second question.
Ping is the time it takes for information to make it to the server and back to the client. Latency is a combonation of ping and some other factors. The lower these numbers are, the better it is. I may be wrong though. _________________

Some people have 56k connection and some have cable. Some have DSL. Some have T1. etc etc. Different connections mean different pings. The better your connection, the lower your ping.
Also remember, no matter how good your connection is, you are only as fast as the server's connection.
When you play on other people's servers, you are pinging them. When you play on your own, you are pinging yourself. It's the difference between shouting across the state line and shouting at yourself. You get no echo while shouting at yourself.
Your server. .

Someone else's server. .

In your adminmod config folder you have to designate what file that is to be read. I think the default setting is set to read from your mapcycle folder, not sure though. Verify what folder it is set to read from. _________________

Well for some reason admin mod needs that darn maps file defined or you will get that "bad map name" error. Otherwise if you dont have it defined I am pretty sure the only way you would be able to change maps is through RCON.
Also if the server crashed on a Map Change you most likely are missing a file for the map that you tried to change it to(or the maps just sux). Either find out whats wrong with the map or take out of your maps.ini
Make sure the following line is in your adminmod.cfg file.
maps_file "addons/adminmod/config/maps.ini
Make sure you have all of your maps you want to use in that file, minus the .bsp extension.
Remember after makeing these changes to restart the server.
just "dod_avalanche" will do. |

Welcome to the wonderful world of server admining . It gets really frustrating at times trying to figure stuff out but well worth it when you do. It is hard to come up with answers when the obvious fixes don't work. It is much easier to find answers when you are looking at what you are working on . _________________

Yeah, running a server with adminmod and a bunch of plugins is pretty hard when they don't work the first time. Sometimes ther is a very simple problem and other times they are complicated. One time I worked for hours trying to fix it, and it turned out there were 2 entries in metamod's plugin.ini for AdminMod.
Anyway, I think I'm rambling a little too much........ _________________

negativecreep wrote: | Ok I changed the maps_file from off to "addons/adminmod/config/maps.ini" and my server crashed. Now when I had the maps_file on 0, the server didn't crash but it gave me a bad map name. So.....what. |
What map did it try to load before it crashed? Thats what did it, Not the maps.ini file
Just to double check, the maps.ini file is in your addons/adminmod/config/ directory and is set up as i told you before right?
The maps.ini file is Fine then, leave it alone. It most likely is not causing your server to crash!
Did the server crash on the first map in the mapcycle.txt? Take that map out(of the maps.ini and mapcycle.txt) and let it start on the next. Or does the server start up fine on the first map and when you change it or goes to the next map does it crash?
YOU have to find out what map is crashing it and fix it or get rid of it!
When you changed the maps.ini setting in adminmod.cfg to 0 you turned off the adminmod map config. So according to adminmod you didnt have any maps. Hence, the bad map error.
Also it is very very important to keep up with the latest updates on metamod and admimod.
If you want feel free to send me your cfg's and ill be more than happy to double check em.
If you have a mistyped something in the maps.ini file it will not cause the server to crash, it will just bypass the mispelled name. Same deal with the mapcycle.txt
The only way you will see the actual error is to look at the console right before it crashes, and you will see it. |

Repeat,
WHAT MAP DID YOU TRY TO CHANGE IT TO!
THATS WHAT CRASHED IT!
Setting the maps_file to 0 disables the maps ini thats why you get the Bad Map name error!!!!!
IT HAS NOTHING TO WITH YOUR SERVER CRASHING! LEAVE IT ALONE LIKE I TOLD YOU BEFORE!!!
Even if you set it to use the mapcycle, the minute you change it to that map IT WILL STILL CRASH!!!
YOU HAVE TO FIND OUT WHAT MAP IS CAUSING THE CRASH, YOUR SETTINGS ARE FINE!
If its picking up the map name that you wanted to change it to and its not saying bad map name, then your map.ini file is FINE DONT TOUCH IT! But if it crashes when you try to change it to that Map, THERE IS A PROBLEM With the map!
IT IS A MAP PROBLEM!
Listen to what I am saying, I have set up alot of the servers here and I have seen this error and have fixed it before. |

Yes sir! you got it. dod_kalt is all you need in the maps.ini and mapcycle.
Also, how do you start up the server? Gamehost? Or just a shortcut on the Desktop?
Dont worry every server takes a while before it actually runs good! |

That would be, admin_godmode (you cant be killed)
Walk Through Walls: admin_noclip
example:
admin_noclip Player 1 Turns no clip on
admin_godmode Player 1 Turns godmode on
0 Turns it back off. |

Instead of using numbers you can substitute the numbers with the words "on" or "off". Will work just the same for you. _________________

Do it like this:
admin_noclip Negative 1
That will work unless someone else on the server has Negative in their name. I think you can put your whole name and put it in quotes. _________________
