try alt+tab, give it a bit of time to let it reload to fullscreen.
btw, it's better when you close hl and reopen it. mostly some strange things happen after the game has been minimized. like your mousepointer coming up in game, ...........

type crosshair 1 in console, this will enable crosshairs.

When I saw "bad map name" I thought it was someone complaining about my map. (I read it from the home page, so I did not know it was DoD related until I read it)

I don't think they delete threads unless there is bad or offensive content in them. Threads like this can stay and help other people with the same problems.
