Yeah so me and warpig after reading Species' post made a little list for the RIAA

If you could, please e-mail this to everyone you know

Keep in mind this was an email we sent to the RIAA using our fake hotmail account (fux0r_u_riaa@hotmail.com ) in case the wording confuses you

Enjoy, and download lots of music

OK, here's some ground rules for you to follow

1. People don't like paying 20$ for a CD, that's why CD sales have gone down. Place yourself in this situation: Either a.) pay 20 bucks for a CD with max of 3 songs I'll listen to or b.) Download KaZaA for free and download all the songs I want for free. Doesn't take a degree in quantum physics to figure out which one people will choose.

2. People know that CDs aren't worth what they are selling for. Maybe back int he 1980's it costed more to make the CDs, but nowadays, you can get 100 blank CD-Rs for 20 bucks. Lower your prices.

3. I will bet the person who reads this 20 bucks that some child of some high exectuive at the RIAA uses KaZaA. Why don't you sue them, huh? That's what I thought

4. The RIAA is not a dictatorship, so stop acting like it. People will transfer files over the internet no matter how much you investigate them, so stop denying the inevitable. In fact, going after people who use file-sharing programs will only worsen the situation. You know how if you tell a person not to do something, they do it anyway? Chances are, they will do it just to spite you.

5. Suing people is not good business, contrary to what you might "believe", most people won't buy CDs anymore because you sue them, or anyone they know.

6. Big businesses suing individual American citizens generally pisses people off

7. Contrary to what your financial advisors may be telling you, your profit margins do not suck balls

8. The only way to win this situation is to embrace peer-to-peer technologies. Think of all the money you could save by advertising on music websites, or on file sharing programs, rather than on T.V., or radio, etc. And think of how more convinient is it to download an album from your computer than to have to drive to a music store and buy the album. How about creating your own peer-to-peer network that charges people for every song they download? That would probably make you mucho dinero

9. For every person you sue, you lose their business, plus most of their friends, because no one wants to do business with a bunch of assholes

10. F$%^ you

I put on my robe and wizard hat har

True, but only 3% of all computer users in the U.S. are Macs. Think if all the PC users had the iTunes service. They would make a lil more money

I actually wouldn't mind that, as long as I know the songs are exactly the songs I want and are of a good (not just decent, good) listening quality. I hate getting the wrong song, a song that ends early, or a crappy quality song.

I hate people that can spend money like it doesn't matter.....

BTW Macs suck and music should be free or else they need to stop the radio from playing anything. Blank tapes and blank VHS tape all need to be destroyed if they want to stop people from copying

They tried to stop VHS cassettes and audio cassettes when they came out.

Apple's prices per mp3 is no deal at all. It makes no sense. Anyone know what their bitrates are on Apple? Either way it's bieng setup to fail so someone can say "It doesn't work." Try 39 cents per mp3 and see if it changes things.

I know it's a big issue about American mainstream popular music, where you can either buy a $20 CD with 13 songs (4 of which are good), or download all the songs you want from WINMX or KaZaA.

But for me and others who like certian instrumental kinds of music (video game soundtracks, even if you don't play the game), it's not a matter of buying the album over downloading it. In most cases you CAN'T get the album becuase it simply isn't available. You practically have to live in Japan to get any of those soundtracks.

Thankfully, there are FTP services that host huge amounts of great quality music. Video game music isn't ALL I listen to, but I like quite a bit of it, so I'm thankful for certian sites that host it.

So I guess I'm trying to say, there will always be peole sharing music rather than buying it. Now that peer-to-peer file sharing is here, it's not going anywhere.

(Whew, long post.)

They are 128 bitrate Frag..

I had a whole huge post written out about this, as I follow it intently being as this could be the gateway for human rights on the internet. If the RIAA wins and gets to impose laws and the bill in the house passes making it a felony to share music online, then what about other companies who want to restrict anything else we do online. Not to mention the government. It would be a free for all for them and the destruction of the internet as we know it. Think about it, the government likes to do shit like that, and now the movie/video/tv industy wants to jump on the RIAA bandwagon.

The internet is the present day Wild West. There are still very few laws and restrictions in it. It's vast and a fertile place for ideas, business, and community. It's a true forum of freedom and speech, one of the last ones that's almost totally unrestricted...We can't let the government or big business love it all up for us by moving in and ruining it forever.

I listen primarily to Classical and Techno. Most Classical CDs cost $2-$3 bucks and have like 25 great pieces on them. As far as Techno goes the only way to get it is to download it. And DJs don't care. They make their money DJing. Downloading their music is just a free way for them to advertise.

Your are right about this opening a whole new can of worms Oldman. Another community that I belong to freerepublic.com is worried that if the RIAA prevails then the print media will come after thoughs that copy and past articles into forums for others to comment on. Some of these articles come from pay sites like the Wall Street Journal or come from sites that don't charge, YET. But coping and pasting it is technically copyright infringement. The RIAA and the record labels that it represents are a failed business model, which is why they are lashing out like this. Its like a Dictator on his last thread, but doesn't know it because he is blinded by the flattering of his YES men.

128 bit rate is awful unless necessary. Apple should be running it with 192 CBR (Constant Bit Rate) or at a VBR rate (like emusic) at about 85-95% of CD quality. BRN hates me now since I told him about 128 bit rate when he encodes. He's now at 192. I encode mostly in VBR at 95-100% of CD quality.

What's so bad about 128? I can't really tell the difference between the two, except the difference in file size

I listen to techno too, and the only way i can find it is to go to some big music store...but even then they only have the mainstream stuff that can sound a little weird. Im into the european techno....so why not just d/l it and save me money and time...i dont want to buy a techno cd that ive never heard and end up not playing it again. Then again, i dont want to buy a cd if i have the mp3...it only takes minutes to burn and i can listen to it on the way to work (plus, like what was said, most dont care...they will even have it up for d/l on their website). Most of them are 128kbps, so they still have good quality, i feel that anything less is just crappy. oh btw, techno fans www.digitallyimported.com (internet radio at 128kbps and lower) if you didnt already know

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! Thank You for that website. Its hard to find good techno sites that have good music. The local techno radio station here plays a bunch of fluffy dance crap.
