| Trigger, Unfortunatly people on the west coast seem to get the worse ping around here. I really dont think it has anything to do with tv1's connection, Like I said It is on a T1 wich is monitored 24/7 for QOS. And if it was tv1's connection everybody would get a bad ping/lag, not just you. People from the midwest/east coast tend to get a great ping. Check with your provider, obviously there is something going on. Also you might want to check www.dslreports.com and look at there forums. Youll see allot of people from all over the country posting about cable/dsl issues. Do a tracert to tv1.theville.org and tv2.theville.org post what you get and well all try to help out here. It seems like peeps from the west coast get the short end of the stick for many servers.. Havnt really heard anyone else complain. DK hows your lag to tv1/tv2? I think your in about the same area as trigger. If anyone does have any issues at all with the servers let us know asap, dont keep quiet about or theres nothing we can do about it, and we all suffer. By the way how is everyone else ping/lag on tv1 and the rest of the servers? |

| Dont really hear anything bad from the east cost(yet).. Just seems like the West coast gets the short end of the stick. Seems like TheVille Needs a west coast server. Keep in mind all that we do whatever we can to keep these servers running strong. Well take into account any suggestions you have, and help you out when ever we can. Updates are coming out often(hlguard,etc..) and as they do well try to apply em asap, maybe they will help with lag also... |

When frag moves to Vegas and hits it big on the Slots, he can put up a Ville server out there, maybe that would be close enough for you Cali, peeps. _________________ Killing is my bidness ladies and BIDNESS IS GOOD!!!! |

It's really user-friendly GSpy, I would just take it step by step first using their online tcp/ip analyzer first and see what it recommends and then D/L their program. It's simple,
1)Pick the type of connection that you have from the selection
2)Change the setting below to "Custom" this will allow you to change the base MTU from 576 to 1500.
3)Go to the MTU Tab up above and select start. This will find the largest possible non-fragmented packet that it can send whole. My case is 576 so I had to reset mine back to it's default afterwards.
4)Choose Modify All Network Adapters.
5) Apply changes. Reboot
After you return to the desktop use your Start/Dos mode option and type Tracert **.***.***.** ip of your favorite ville server.. Experiment with the software until you come to the lowest posible ping that is shown doing this tracert..
GSpy, this should be your first step anyway. Then there are way's to stop having games constantly thrashing your hard drive searching for what it need's which increases latency.
1)Scan Disk entire system
2)Defrag all of your HD's(Hopefully if you don't have two seperate drives you do however have it partitioned)C,D,E ect...
3)Go into your Device manager and open the option "Performance" and go to "Virtual Memory". I have a total of 256megs of SDRam and as the general rule to this goes I prefer x2 instead of 3/4 the total amount of ram like some say to use. So if you have 256k it's x2= 512 total and so on. 32x2=64, 64x2=128, 128x2=256, 256x2=512 ect........
You have 3 settings in your virtual Memory box,
1)Let windows manage your virtual mem settings
2)Letme specify my own virtual memory settings
You need to pick 2, Letme specify so you can input the new values next..
Next you see a box showing you where the cache to these setting are stored. c:\3528megs free ignore this for now and proceed to the settings. Here is where your going to put in the total amount of ram that you have x2 in both settings,
Minimum=256x2=512
Maximum=256x2=512
Now return to where your previous cache is stored and pick another drive
to store your newly created cache *Default is c:\* So pick D:\.
I also keep the cache's properties set to Read Only*
Reboot.
*Note Important* makesure that the directory that you just changed the new caches home to isn't the same *.* that your games are all in.. This way when the cache stays intact and unfragmented keeping all the info at the top equaling faster access leaving your HD alone.*

I must say, www.dslreports.com has a lot better tools for boosting performance... PPPoE users such as me should not be using a MTU of 5000, and dslreports have a great tool that tells you exactly what your system needs.
Although, nothing that has been posted above or at dslreports improves UDP packs, which is what half-life runs off of... So if you want to help your lag you need to modify the in game commands (rate, etc). |

From what I am aware, almost all west coast peeps have to go through the main hub in San Jose. The problem could be there. I don't really have any lag issues to speak of, I shouldn't with the machine I have. I know I ping a bit higher on TV1 but not bad enough to affect the game. _________________

I'm currently at college right now. When I come home on the weekend or maybe next weekend, depending on my finals I'll go to dslreports.com and post the speed list. Thx _________________ I like you---that's why I'm going to kill you last.

One thing I'll say about lag on TV2's NS server - this game is a CPU hog. When you get a big map and over 10 players, you'll notice everyone's ping go over 150ms or so. This is because the CPU is maxed out on the server - and it has dual 933MHz P3's! Maybe when I can buy some more servers in 2003 I might "find" a Xeon 2GHz or something like that lying around.... _________________ Support wildlife. Throw a party! |

Danno as for lag on Ville 1. It is normally not bad. But when the server gets full I sit at over 300ms lag (and so do most, not sure why).
And as for the NS server, lag happenes considering as War said the map size and also look at the detail and graphic complexity (aka 10 marines running down dark hallway with flashlight on).

TV5 seems to be the one bogging down. We had a couple of intense battles going tonight and the ping was ok, I just think the server itself got bogged down. I was shooting rockets and not seeing them go till they hit. I don't think it was due to connection problems though. My ping never seemed to raise over 150 or so. _________________
