check it out bizatch. w00t!
I'm working on a revision with better flag rooms, as thats seems to be the only complaint I've heard about it.

It seems a weee bit small. But then the map I'm working on is a wee bit too big. lol
But it looks good. The stone walls, gate, and lighting remind me of Quake 1 maybe. Very nice atmosphere. And the barrier in between bases is a nice touch, don't know how that would effect actual gameplay though.
I think anymore than 5v5 would produce a stalemate simply b/c of cramped quarters however. There just isnt that much room to run around. |

Nice, basic map. I'd call it a poor man's 2fort. As soldier I think I could CTF in about 10-12 seconds. I would suggest adding back doors or something for demomen to blow up. I can see this being a hard map to get to the flag with more than 10 people per team.

BTW, it was my first map and i scored a 76 on TF Map Complex, unfortunatly the review was taken down =(

Hey there, congrats on the rating. It is indeed very nice for a first time map.
If you care to see what happens when 2 semi-first-time mappers (me and Greebo) try to make a map while working on opposite sides of the Atlantic... check us out here.
Map's called Breakout, and its based on the Avanti command point game-style. We're still putting some finishing touches on it, and it should be released in final version soon.

I agree with warhammer's assessment of the map.
Good rating though - congrats on that.
Bet Nathan111 wouldn't like it - too much open space between the bases.

Breakout looks great. I'd imagine it will look infinitly better once lighting is established. Try and use textured light if you can, as it look much better than entity based. I'm currently switching stone_wall over to textured lighting. I'm off to work, I'll see ya'll on the servers!
BTW, is their any way TV could add a forum just for us mappers??? just wondering...

Ok you've officially left me totally confused.
What's textured lighting????
Authorize me on icq so we can talk.
I don't think we specifically need a mapping forum - this isn't a mapping site.

I liked the map. Created well and looked nice. I liked the colored lights, for each team, at the ends of the field. I agree with warhammer that I could cap it in about 20 seconds. A little bigger would be better.
I might also suggest a little more light in the feild. Its a tad bit dark for my liking, but nice nonetheless.
I would be intrested in playing a game on it if some modifacations were made to make it larger. Maybe expand the bases, and push the flag further back. Enlarge the feild, and maybe add a tunnel from one side to the other that only a demo could blow.
The other thing I noticed first off was the acutal size of things in the map. The respawn room ceiling felt low. Then when I went throught the door, I thought I was going to have to duck. It just seemed that I was a gaint in the rooms.
What did you use to creat it? What about you Greebo? I have asked before, but that was when the server crashed, and we lost some of the posts. I never got the answer.

The standard tool for map making is Worldcraft 3.3
This website should have some good tutorials for creating TFC maps
http://tf.valve-erc.com/
And its parent site also has good info, based more around Half-Life in general

Textured lighting is a way to make textures emit light instead of a single entity-based entity. The whole side of the brush with the specified texture emits light and looks much more realistic. There are a couple of tutorials out there, but you shold read them all to get a good grasp of it. I'm not sure if i can use this BBcode right but I'll try. Here's my bookmarks for HL editing.
I hope I did this right since I can't preview my message before its posted. Hope this helps.
