I need some suggestions for my old computer. I bought a new computer a year ago, but only recently set-up a home network with my old PC. Of course the first thing I wanted to do was see if I could run a LAN game. Well, when I first installed Half-Life, and actually got my CD-ROM to recognize that there was a CD in there, Half-life played fine. Then I installed the 1109 and 1110 patches and started TFC 1.5. Everything worked fine up until I tried to create or join a LAN game. The old computer could see the game created on the new computer, but when I tried to join, TFC closed. Same thing when I tried to create a game on the old comp. Menu select worked fine, it started to creat game, and then it closed.
OLD comp stats (as far as I can remember)
PII 233 MHz
On-board graphics STB Velocity 128 (Riva) 4MB?
128 Meg RAM
Windows 95
Networked across a Linksys 4-port router 10/100
It works fine with one exception: The CD-ROM doesn't always recognize that there is a CD in the drive. I installed everything across the network from the new computer. It did manage to get the drive working well enough to do the Hazard Course at initial install. I don't think TFC needs the half-life CD anyway.
I played through Half-Life and Opposing Force on this computer, but never tried TFC.
Any suggestions for troubleshooting this problem? I checked the system requirements, and I seem to be OK there:
Half-Life/Team Fortress Classic Reccomended System Requirements:
Windows 95/98/NT.
Pentium 166+.
32 Mb Ram.
3D accelerator card (OpenGL or Direct 3D).
Windows-compatible sound device.
400 Mb free hard disk space.
I updated the graphics drivers while playing Opposing Force, and haven't had any graphics problems since.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! _________________

Are you getting c.d. key already in use error, when playing the lan game?
If you only have one copy of halflife and installed it on both computers, that may be what is going on. The latest patches make you get a different key for multiple computers. |

Not getting CD key error.
I don't even get to the point where I can get an error message. I hit "create" under LAN game, pick 2fort, hit "OK", the screen goes dark like it normally does before the console comes up, and then blink, I'm back to windows and TFC isn't running anymore.
Besides I thought I read on this forum that you could run a LAN game with one copy of HL?
I'll try it with the new comp turned off when I get home, just to make sure it isn't seeing the CD key on that computer.
Any more ideas? _________________
