I originally voted no to this thread but after thinking about it for awhile I came to this conclusion.
I would like to see The Ville try it, how do we know wether it's going to work or not if we don't at least try it?
What do we have to loose for trying?
If it becomes a bad thing for The Ville I trust Rob will remove it.
Also I've been playing some games with you league guys and I must admit it's a really fun intense game when both teams have the O and D spread evenly it also promotes TPF gameplay. |

5. On the other hand the ville has to grow and prosper, us old farts will not be around forever. The only way to do that is to have a atmosphere that will attract players to come and play on the servers. The trick here is to make sure they come back and end up being a fixture here. How do you do that? There is only one way, make sure that there gaming experience is enjoyable for them. If you want to learn then great this is the place. If you only want to have fun great its here. If you like league great its here as well.
In closing, if there is a league server created then it would be an idea to let it be know that this is a trial and subject to change as the patrons see fit. |
I think thats what I've been saying, see my whole post on page 2 this thread if interested. _________________

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!
All great maps! |
Agreed!! These would be great maps to add to a server, however I think that the real topic here is whether or not to have TV5 as a league server or not. Like others I have kept quiet on this to see what people thought. I would have to side with Ktulu again on this one. How could it hurt to at least try it. If it doesn't work out then let da man put it back to the way it was. _________________

You know.....If I saw more of those that want a league server as paying supporters of the Ville then I would think the idea might have some credibility.
As for my thoughts I think a server running all custom maps would be just as useful as a league rule server and it would be more in keeping with how the Ville exists.

it doesn't hurt to try, since tv5 is empty most of the time. |

This is what league people have been trying to say for the longest time. _________________ Yes, I'm still around

Eventhough, I probably wouldn't play on it, unless desperate, I say try it out. I agree the map rotation would limit it to people who know about league's and how to play on the servers. Whats to hurt, give it a month.
I also beleive that a good bit of paying supporters voted yes... could be wrong though. I saw 11 out of 22 post from supporters who said try it. and most of the other 11 may not have stated an opinion.
Im just going to and on TVIII and maybe TVII _________________

You'd still have to be careful as to how things are done. A map such as Acrop2, which has attracted many complaints from the new-order, would still fall victim to non-idealistic gameplay, as it is a map known to most players, and therefore not one to keep away regular players.
Just a thought, as popular ctf maps would still need increased scrutiny to ensure that they are played properly. But if the plan does go ahead, good luck. |

Another option could be to have someone start another Ville server if TV5 stays the same.
Maps you'd probably see if there was a league server. My guess is that we'd have the rules in a big post here before anything would ever go up. They really aren't that difficult at all.

In other words you would not really find valve maps (Avanti, Warpath, Dustbowl, Badlands, and Acropolis) in the normal rotation. _________________ Yes, I'm still around

It doesn't necessarily have to be a Ville server. It could just be a different place for folks to go to, for a different type of game. Such as Timbuktu. |

What in da heck is a Timbuktu
Well, like I mentioned earlier about changing TV5 to a non-ctf style rotation is just a suggestion. Another suggestion is to make it a league server. Whatever floats your boat but IMHO I feel the person hosting/paying for the server should make the decision. It's his/her choice over all our suggestions so more power to you
But I do support the DIVERSITY point of view. The more diverse theville is the more of a diverse community theville will become. Why would we want theville to be stuck in monotony when there are other things out there to experience? Can't we all just friggin' get along?
I just feel like this place is already changing to a League Vs. Non-League DM debates which isn't fun to read anymore. At first it was kind of funny but now I'm getting bored/tired of reading it. Even though I am a leaguer now I'm still in the middle of all this stuff. It kinda hurts me to see such nice people fight over this topic. It doesn't really make you look good to fight in the public forums because people will have bias opinions
Solution? Yeah give TV5 a try and make it a league server just to experiment. Choose admins who can support the idea and will do a good job enforcing the rules. Just make sure to bind a key because I bet you'll have to explain things over-and-over again The goal for theville is to attract players right? Well diverse options will attract diverse players whether they be leaguers of non-leaguers and so forth. Try it out, just how we did DOD and now we have NS oh baby! Good stuff.
EXAMPLE:
TV1: Avantiville ( old skewl foo! )
TV2: Neo TF ( Neo skewl foo! )
TV3: CTF MapRotation ( uhhh..weeeeeeeeeee! )
TV5: LeagueVille ( It's Peanut Budda Jelly Time! )
TVNS: Natural Selection ( Ono! Run! )
Looks good to me, what you guys think _________________ I like you---that's why I'm going to kill you last.

Yeah, try out a league rules server. If it works out, cool... if not, well, can you say mp3Ville? hehehe, j/k
Let those who want to play league-style do it, and those of us who don't play on the other servers. |

I like both styles of play myslef. Guess I'd lean torwards league style, but then I do like playing sniper every now and then. One server being league rules wouldnt be all that bad IMO, I really dont think it needs to be a locked server either, just name it something that when ppl look they will know what it is about. Have some admins enforce it and have fun. Best way is just to run league maps that the n00b doesnt have and wont dl and play. That way the ppl that are familiar with the map, will play the way the server and other players want them to do so. At least thats what I got from other league servers, that wernt password protected and seemed to run very nicely, except with the once in a while n00b. |
