^^ What he said.

Old School IMHO.

Either way it doesn't really matter though. Just glad to see them back, hell that's why I started playing here.

I liked the idea of tracking how much health/armor is removed, not the kills themselves. As long as we are dreaming let's add one more layer to it. It should be per unit time. This would really reflect skill. A player who only has time to play for an hour a day cannot possibly rank against one who plays 4 or 5 hours per day.

So if you ranked by enemy health/armor removed per minute you would have a truer reflection of the player's skill.

*casts about for that tongue in cheek Emoticon* - close enough.

Personally I never did look much at the stats . . . other than to be depressed that mostly all I do is DIE! DOH.

I love the super old school way but i think cycodads idea of points based on % of total kills would rock and leave caps and sg kills at a stardard.

Ktulu <---- Reformed Stat Whore

The old skool stats are what originally brought me to The Ville and kept me coming back. This was true for alot of people, back then we had 5 servers and they were full just about 24/7. Those days were alot of fun for me but it was very stressfull to stay in the top 5.
No one ever accussed me of being a 'stat whore' because I played a class that was not expected to cap the flag or fight on the front line all the time... I played engi almost all the time.

When Rob decided to drop the old skool stat system I was shocked and skeptical about whether he did the right thing, it completely changed game play around here after Rob eradicated the stat whore virus, is was not long before I realized how fun TFC could be without the pressure. I loved it and I still love it today.
But I miss the servers not being full 24/7, I miss the huge wave of new people who came to The Ville everyday.

There are alot of good suggestions in this thread on how to change the old skool stat system in order to keep team play at the level we are all now used to. With time permitting and help from a couple other programmers (cough *Munk* cough *CycoDad*) I would like to try and incorporate those ideas but that will take some time.

So for now I say we bring back the old skool stats to breath new life into The Ville, we have alot more active admins to help deal with the problems that will arise and it should be alot of fun for all of us.... we are due for change. Sure there will be fights in game and in the forums (when is there not?) but the subject will be different and if things get to far out of hand again we can look to Dr. Rob to eradicate the stat whore virus again.

Isn't it weird to see the old POTW standings again???

What's cooler, though, is to see how many of those peeps are still playing here after the stats are long gone. Anyone remember who some of those aliases are? I'm pretty sure "crash" was EagleEyes. Is "I_am_crazy" one of the many Svvord aliases? It reminds me of "yuGyzarC".

I've seen some stats that would give you points for player to player for healing someone, that would be cool. It should be possible to give stats for upgrading teammates sgs, but I don't know a whole lot about log files. I personally am a stats whore by nature so I want the old school stats

New school...if using old school run it 1 week a month and use new school the other 3 weeks...also if using old school you should weight the command points avanti with a different amount of points...20 for point 3, 15 for point 4, 10 for point 1, and 5 for point 2...

Ah that POTW brings back some memories, back then every kill I got was an earned treat. Because not only did I help my team, but I was going for a goal beyond the game. Back then I wasn't really playing for stats, it was just an added bonus. I say bring old school stats back, I mean if you seriously go out of your way to get your name into the top 5 you have some problems. :-\ Well either way, TheVille is still a fun place to frag. OH and my mouse is a h00r. Thanks.

I think people play for fun more when they aren't as much concerned about their stats, so i think a new way would be better

I actually would like stats on, whether old or new school makes no difference. There was a child-like innocence posting about crowbar kills. A friendly competition between red/blue comrades. Besides, while stupid, it was fun(to paraphrase the Opposing Force manual: "1. If it's stupid, but (fun), it isn't stupid."). Computer game fun.
