I just replaced my old graphics card that went kaputz on me with a geforce 4Ti 4600 (waited 3 weeks for it to arrive. DONOT buy from http://www.buyxtremegear.com/). anyhoo... I'm still stuck with an FPS of 60 which I got with my old card. How can I increase it to something more respectable? TIA!

if its constantly stuck at 60, go into your config and change the fps_max to something higher, miens at 75, hardly reaches past 70 sometiems and in action it can bog down but that may be it... in the TFC folders config.cfg or whatever it is, aside from that i'd say more ram helped me a lot too. hope this helps?

I run at a constant 60 fps and have tried the same thing. I noticed no difference what so ever in the quality of the picture with it running higher than 60. I try to run everything at the minimum amount and get highest quality. You won't see any difference above 60.

Many believe your fps should equal your monitor refresh rates or higher. If it doesnt (im guessing you have windows XP) go find a refresh rate fix program for windows XP. There are many games that having 60+ fps makes a great, great difference. Especially the new titles coming out.

www.guru3d.com has a program in their nvidia driver section call nv refresh tool. There is also one called nvreffix, and many more. But you have to be careful not to go above your monitor specs. If you do you can harm your monitor.

60 fps in tfc means your monitor is dropping down to 60mhz refresh rate. Visual quality is much better at say 75, 85mhz or 100mhz. Its like changing your adapter settings on your desktop from 75,85,100 down to 60. For me it looks like crap. If your monitors recommended refresh rate is above 60mhz you should utilize it both on your desktop and all games. Higher refresh rate = better visual. IF your monitor is good for you at 60mhz or it should be running at that rate then keep it there.

As far as turning off vsync, in tfc that = tearing. I rather have it smooth then jittery. This also depends on the card and monitor. I know my old 4600 if I turned off vsync and played tfc I would have a fit it wouldn't even be close to smooth.

You are using opengl. Most players do in tfc. Halflife was optimized for OpenGL. It looks terrible in D3D.

I have a 19 inch .22 viewsonic monitor and a ge4 with 60 mb. I don't know much about computers but I, too, run 60 fps and should I change it to 75? Sorry I'm sort lost with puter stuff man

If I do change it to 75 would that helyp with my flush? cl_entity_flushpacket? I get that a lot when I play the game and it is so irritating

Just so you know your eye can't really tell the difference above 60 fps so it doesn't make all that much difference between 60 and 99. =\

At least my eyes can't tell the difference. Now if mine doesn't run at a continuous 60 fps then I can tell the difference. I've only seen that happen once.

Thanks for all the info, gonna go try that out now. As dumb luck would have it, my neighborhood had a blackout before I even got to start.

I hate all of you and your rich ti 4600s! I would have gotten a geforce4 ti 4600...but $550 is way too much money for me. with my Geforce3 Ti 200 I get about 55-75 fps which beats the hell out of the old 6-15 fps .

PS have any of you checked out the ATI Radeon 9700? I was reading the review of it on gamespot and it looks insanely godly. Too bad it costs nearly $700 Canadian...
