thats usually a Video card compatiblity issue, try to see if there are any updated Drivers for your video card or try changing what mode your in. I.E from D3D to software or vice versa. If you have the most recent drivers you might even want to try to use some of the slightly older drivers, could be a change in the software that causes it.
This just start happening? and have you made any recent changes other than the XP to ME change? _________________ Killing is my bidness ladies and BIDNESS IS GOOD!!!! |

random restarts?
Uh... video maybe... drivers check like assassin said...
winME... suxorz. Go with XP, much much better.
Have you done all the service packs/updates etc to windoze?
Is it underpowered? literally... like an "el-cheapo" brand PC with a 135watt power supply? Nice programs that like to use video, CPU, and drives at the same time might demand too much power and it crashes when the PSU can't handle it...
Did you sacrifice an iMac to the computer gods? I make it a habit to do that once a month or so, to keep them appeased. |

Does it crap out in anything but games? I had an Athlon 700 that started doing the exact same thing - mysterious restarts. It started doing it once in a while, but gradually got worse to the point that the system was unusable. It would even restart if I tried to launch something like Word or WinAmp.
I think I swapped out every damn component before finally replacing the mobo and processor. Upon further research, it turns out that the original mobo was an Abit that had some sort of problem regulating power/voltage/heating/whatever. It fried well after the warranty expired, of course.
All of the other components (RAM, video, power supply, etc.) from that machine are still running reliably with the new mobo. |

What nvidia drivers are you using? If you're using the latest beta ones (41.** I think) then roll back to 30.82 - they're the latest proper release. _________________ Most evil admin around.

well, it only crashes in games, so I am guessing that it is a heating prob, but.... i don't have the right things probably to fix it, what you suggest?
Or should I crack an egg and start cooking?
Also my computer isn't in any desk or anything so airflow gets to it. _________________

It appears that the giggler pin is a canadain problem.
After the service tech examins the computer and having doing extensive testing you'll be presented with a bill that would choke a horse.
“I know you were only expecting your bill to be $500 but it actually came to $795. Sorry about that but the giggler pin was shot.” Being a good Canadian you won’t complain but will grudgingly pay your bill and go home and boot up."
Try hanging a 6 inch fan on your case after removing your side cover with zip ties pointing right at your cpu. _________________ Only in America......do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering. |

Don't rule out what TYO wrote. It could still be a bad component on your MoBo. I had an older machine that did much like his, fortunately on that MoBo the L2 cache was a separate piece. The external cache had gone bad. At first it only showed up in very CPU intensive programs, but eventually I couldn't even boot without errors, crashes or restarts. After replacing that it behaved itself and is now the kids computer.

Sounds like a video card problem to me also. The latest drivers are not always the greatest. Awhile back I had to revert to an old driver to keep things stable. The latest batch from Nvidia seems to be working fine though. One problem I did have was the agp connector with my card. After I would reboot/freeze, I couldn't even get past post until I reset my video card in the agp slot. After doing that 20 or more times over a week span, I went out and bought new motherboard and the problems were gone. Don't know if I went through so many video cards that I eventually bent some connectors inside the slot or what. It happened on different video cards also. Always good to get at least a 300w power supply also, plus some extra cooling. You can try reseating all components, including memory back into their slots, although I don't think that is the problem. No overclocking..............correct? |
