|
|
A question of legality came up playing flagrun today. Pond and I would hold our last flag to make it harder to steal and wouldn't cap until the other three were there.
Regardless of lameness or anything else, it's good defense. The question that came up was, Is it allowed? _________________

i think it can go both ways as a defensiv measure; if ther person does something stupid with it like moves too far from the flagroom, they are easy to kill and the flag is aready partway back to the enemy base, and even if they are in the flagroom it jsut require a bit more plannin on the O's part to gang up on that one person... _________________

oh shoot how do i phrase this now i think flag holding is not good even if it's the last flag or the first flag.. it doesn't give everybody a chance to get it to the cp if one person holds it another will want to .. as for this link i find it quite interesting http://tvb.theville.org/onebighoax/
I was meaning to offend the use of it i was just pointing out and what good chapters are coming up and maybe something in a writing of how to help make things go smoothly?? i re phrase myself hoping to clear it up some maybe arugh!! i don't know what i am getting into arugh ... but anyways i think falg holding doesn't give new people a chance or the regs time to play or get there caps in... i hope this is more clearly understood by roofcutter and those at that web site link.. i don't do much but i try and point out the best vew i can sorry if i offend u roof or hoax

I can't speak for the admins here at the ville but I ask myself, the makers of the maps what did they think when they made the various maps?
A: allow teams to hold flags as strategic moves, or
B: the idea of the game/map is to cap the flag
If it is "A" then why does your team need all the other players, are they really required except maybe one or two I think not, why would they want to be there they will not get any glory or satisfaction with a cap not to mention points beside there name. There goes the TEAM concept as a whole.
If it is "B" that means that the whole TEAM has to be involved since there is capping back and forth its not just 1 guy cap and 2,3,4, that are holding the flags and cap them one after the other. Now the map makers I would like to think would pick "B" since the game is called "TEAM Fortress" and everthing is based on the team concept.
My own though is that ya it can be a good stratgic move but I would not endorse it. It has happened to me before about 3 weeeks ago on flagrun and I can tell you I got so choked after pleding with the flag holding Llama that I just hit my escape key. _________________

for me i go get them and have to keep trying and do my best that i can!!! i can also see why it is a job for the =US-V team to keep thing in control or respects for rules and regalutions tto follow?!?! if anybody is interested in what they have to say check this web site out http://tvb.theville.org/onebighoax and ask them some questions... |
just a clarification:
=US-V= does not make the rules for the Ville, nor do they inforce them, we will play under the current rules and guidelines that all of us villins play under. The =US-V= web page is our rules and regulations for "our" society.

My opinion as an admin, is get the flag and cap it. Flag holders even under the best of intentions will be miss understood and cause problems. _________________ Only in America......do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering. |

I asked this question a while ago to the admins and was told that I must cap that flag and cannot hold it. It's a good strategy that I agree with, but you've gotta follow the house rules. _________________ The most hated.

I personally frown on it. Why? Because it is not a game of hide and seek. That is not the intention of the map as far as I can tell. All flags should be fair game. And, if you hold the flags while hiding in the rafters, etc., what is the point of having defense on your team? If you are standing in the flag room holding the flag I think you are more likely going to be avoidant of the enemy to protect the flag you are holding. Put the flag where it belongs and help protect them all. _________________

BAD BAD BAD!! I hate it when someone does that!! Yester day, we had all 3 flags, and our defense was rock solid, and it took us 20 minutes to find the guy with the flag. And he did it 3 times ( although the second and third times, it didn't take that long ). If he did it one more time, I was going to start a post to get him banned. It's so damn annoying when people do that!! Rob, can we get an opinion here please? I want it down for the record. |

I'm unsure how the scoring works in Flagrun, but I don't recall getting extra points just for taking all 4 flags. You should just take the flag, cap it for the team score, and try to defend it. Flagrun has a fairly unique style of play and scoring, different to that of a standard CTF map, so the stategy is obviously going to be different.
IMO - it's a cynical move, and an admission to the inadequacy of the team. I wouldn't encourage it. |

The Ville offical stand is:
No holding the flags or hiding in respawn or anywhere else.
if you have a flag..cap it.
I hope this clears any doubts.
Now go play a game!
