I've been using P4s, but not for price or performance . . . it's for the motherboard. The VIA-based motherboards always seem to crap out on me, but you can get a beefcake Intel mobo for a P4.

For the video, take a look at the GeForce4 Ti 4200 cards. You can get a 128 MB card for $160 from the internet, and they absolutely SMOKE for a card in that price range.

Make sure you get a video card that is AGP... not PCI!

I'm a happy owner of a 2100XP with an ASUS 4400 Ge4. Only the distance between me & the server slows me down to >125 ping.
Stuff it full of good quality RAM since its cheap. And a fast HHD and game away.

Yeah, no kidding! Those boards are built like a brick $#17-house!
Overclock? bah!
Good BIOS? bah!
Stable as hell? Yeah!

Oh, and Intel just did some bigtime price cutting, the prices for all CPUs should go down nicely quite soon!

My motherboard is a Gigabyte 7VTXH+. I have an Antec case. Antecs are great as far as accommodating many different motherboards' screw patterns. Also, they have some other nice features.

AMD= cheaper, but I have no experience with them.

P4= more, they're very powerful however... I heard though that a P3 is faster or perform better or something. P4s are also new so you have to be warry there may be somethings that may be fixed at a later date...

Nah, those problems are long gone - the P4 is starting to shine now.
