does anyone know what actwin.GID is? I normally have 'show hidden files' on, but it hasnt been since last reformat, and i just turned it on, and this file appears on my desktop... i don't know what it is, or if its safe to get rid of... anyone? |

I did some checking. All the .gid files on my box and on the box of a programmer I work with carry text entries for their program and it's stored in binary form.
The closet thing I can find for actwin is Active Perl, though I got many many hits. If the file is on your desktop then the program would have to be installed their too. All my .gid files are in their respective program folders. Unless you installed something to your desktop it is probably safe to delete. _________________

.GID files are indexes for the help (.HLP) files that come with
programs. They're safe to delete, if an index is needed after you delete
one, it will just be re-built on the fly when you try to search the index of
