Sorry Bobins. I'm not sure what the different levels are. I'm guessing this is something that British schools do. Could you enlighten us on what the means
Also, I've always wanted to ask what soz means. |

ok for starters soz means sorry, sort of slang, i know i shouldnt use it but i do.
right now how the hell am i going to explain this... humm...
ok right in the UK you have primary school, this is where lil kiddies just play about n stuff, learn simple addin, primary school is for 2 years.
then in year 3 you go to junior school, this is where you start to actually learn things, you dont really get tested untill the last year of junior school which is year 6, were you have to sit sats in english maths and science.
after junior school you then go to comprehensize, this is year 7. this is where the proper learning/ education takes place. during comprehensiz (secondary school) you get tested every year to decide which set you get put into and to see what level of understanding you have achived.
in your 9 you have to take sats again.
then in year 10 you start what are known as G.C.S.E's these are the first public examinations you have to take. the G,C,S,E course lasts for 2 years and you take the G,C,S,E's in year 11.
then thats the end of compulsary school.
you then get a choice of goint to coledge, 6th form or you can start workin
but G,C,S,E's are the lowest qualification you can get
A-Levels come next, thats what you study in 6th form
(6th form is years 12 and 13, when i go back to school in sept ill be in year 13, then ill be of to uni after year 13)
these are a 2 year course split into 2, the first year you study and take tests for AS-levels and then continue in the second year to complete the A-Level course
after A-Levels comes University
i hope that explains it
i didnt know how to go about explaining what A-Levels where so i've given you a hole time line for school life in the UK

Actually you did a very good job of explaining it Bobins. I was following everything until it was getting closer to end of your schooling there but I get the point. How old are you when you finally get out of school there if you decide not to go to college. In other words, how old is the average person in Britain when they are done with schooling if they don't go to college?? _________________

So it's optional to leave at 16?? You can continue with public education if you choose to after 16?? Interesting seeing how different cultures work. _________________

You go to school for 12 years or so, 12 grades, and then you graduate from school. Anything after that is optional and you pay for it, unless you get scholarships that pay for it. It's usually like this but not the norm everywhere here. grades 1-6 is elementary school. grades 7-8 or 7-9, depending on where you live, is middle or junior high school. grades 9-12 or 10-12 is high school. After high school is college which you pay for. |

here compulsary education is upuntill year 11 (16 years old), when you take the G.C.S.E's. Then you either get the option of leavin n trying to start work or you can stay on untill year 13 (12 and 13 are 6th form) studying A-Levels ( this is still free). Then if you choice to go to university, thats when we have to start paying for the education. _________________

Who wants to hear about Aussie schooling? No? Well, I'll tell you anyway
Kindergarten ( 2 years ) - Play with blocks, learn to tie you shoelaces, ect. In other words, fun!
Years 1-2 - Infant Schooling. Learn the basic stuff, such as two times tables, spelling, and all that.
Years 3-6 - Primary Schooling. Learn things from nouns and verbs in year 3 to writing stories/basic essays in year 6.
Years 7-10 (Forms 1-4) - Essays, Exams, all that boring stuff. Where you start looking foward to the end of the day.
At the end of year 10, there is a bunch of exams, and if you pass, you get a School Certificate. You can leave school if you get it.
Years 11-12 (Forms 5-6) - Not compulsory, but 99% of the popualtion does it anyway. Boring, boring boring. Heaps of essays and exams...BORING!!!
At the end of year 12 there is a bunch of reeeeeally important exams that basically decide your future. Called the High School Certificate ( HSC ). Throughout Forms 5 and 6, all you do is study for the HSC. Nothing else. If you fail it/don't do it, you can't even get a job at Maccas. So, they pretty much decide the job you'll have, and the uni course you will be going to. i.e. - you need 99.98% to become a doctor, and 99.92% to become a lawyer.
That's the Australian schooling system for ya
Then we move into uni. There are 3 years courses ( the normal ones ) and 5 year courses ( the advanced ones - like law, or health ).
For example, my brother is a lawyer. He got 99.96% in the HSC ( FREAK!! ), went to study law for 5 years, then went to law school for 2 years. From about 3 weeks ago, he is officially a lawyer.
I don't know much about uni, so that's all I can give you. |
