If it's optional, why is this raising such a fuss? The main people that are against it are the people that are unable to send money from what I see. Frag was talking aboot sending "cash". Money orders and checks are much safer. If anyones is afraid that TheVille will shut down and you will lose your money, then only donate by the month.
The key word here is "donate" people. TheVille could use some donations and Ktulu was just trying to find a way to encourage people to do just that. He stuck his head on the chopping block for TheVille to post this. Lets' not chop his head off or his ideas. I think it's great that so many are willing to donate to save TheVille. I can't wait until this goes into effect, if it does. More servers and a faster website would be great! If we put our money where our mouth is, we can aquire those things. I have complete faith that if I send 10 bucks to Rob, he will get it. That's enough for me. Although I would like to hear your opinions on this subject Rob. I know you don't like touching these threads but your input would be nice.
To all of you who think this will go sour or cause problems, just don't donate and you'll have nothing to worry about.
I am going to donate 10 bucks for the month of August regardless of whether or not this thing goes into effect or not. I am starting now. Long Live TheVille!
PS, AP great idea aboot the Cup! I like that _________________ Recipient of POTM award

I agree somewhat AP.
There are no quarantee's. I think before any money was given Rob and the others involved would have an outline to say this is our goal. Here is how much money goes to servers, connection costs, meals ( ), etc.
Then not really have a 10/month amount. By doing that you have associated the dues along with the game, therefore it seems like pay to play and not donations. Instead just let people donate and give them a sugessted base amount. When the dollar mark is hit, stop the donations and lets carry about or buisness for while.
If in 6 or so months another situation arrives, then take it up again. I see both sides to it, but regaurdless I think it is a valid option and question for Rob/Ktulu to be raising.
Or we can all have a fundraiser and stand on a designated street corner for three hours. We'll hold sign that say "I'm not homeless, but help support the Ville" _________________

As far as who controls the money, you have to count on them to do the right thing. It is there conscience if they don't. I don't see that happening anyways. How many of you have wasted $10.00 a month on garbage, fast food, things you don't need? I do..........every month. If people don't feel comfortable with paying..............don't. For whatever reasons you have. It doesn't mean you can't play on The Ville servers. I don't think there should be any incentives to pay. You pay because you want this place to be here. There are people that pay every month............right now.... for all of you to be here. They have never asked for anything back. No need to make it complicated. _________________ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - |

Ok,
I am one of the people who is perfectly willing to contribute. If you don't contribute, that has absolutely no impact on what I think of you. I was a kid once, too. I remember when $10 was a fortune to me. If you don't have it, THAT IS OK!
This should, as has been mentioned before, be a totally voluntary donation. I certainly hope that any plan to donate includes the fact that we are donating to a public server. It's your choice if you want to pay.
Sure, I've never met the people that I'm sending money too, but I interact with most of them more than many people I've met in R/L. I trust 'em. So I'm not concerned about what the money is spent on. I'm confident that it will go towards the 'Ville servers.
Ap, I thought your ideas were fantastic, especially the Cup idea. Then I thought, I probably wouldn't pay to play in the Cup, because it would frustrate me to lose to people running scripts, when I don't. I don't wish to take this off-topic into a script flamewar, I'm just letting you know my opinion. It doesn't really bother me to lose to a script augmented apponent when it's for fun, but once I have money on it that becomes a different thing.
Please, who ever I should send money to, PM me and let me know what to do. I'm ready to start now. If no one else wants to join in, I'm still ready to start now. _________________

I notice there is some concern that the people who help support The 'Ville monetarily will feel like they have some sort of special priveledge above those who don't. As I look through this thread and see the people who want to and can, I just don't see that. I mean look at the people you are talking about here. KRG, Roof, AG, Ktulu, just to mention a few... have you ever seen any of these people do anything that is remotely selfishly motivated? All I have ever seen from these guys is that they go out of their way and spend a great deal of time trying to make this a better place for all of us. 3 of them are admins... 1 of them should be... but... the admins spend more time then the general population realizes doing nothing but giving to this place... and we all know KRG helps this place by finding new maps and hosting and organizing special custom map nights, and he makes sig pics for people. The point I am trying to make is that all these people want to do is help. I don't think it is arrogance that motivates these people... I think it stems from a love of The 'Ville and a genuine compassion for the people who call it home.
I can understand the reluctance to send your money to a stranger... that takes a great deal of trust and faith. So again I say what has been said so many times here... if you can't do it, if you don't want to do it... then don't. No one will look upon you any differently. You all have some very legitimate reasons for your decisions. I respect all of the opinions that have been voiced here.
And there have been some very good ideas presented here as well to help out. We all help in our own way, be it helping n00bs in game, sharing information in the forums, upholding TPF, etc. There is something to be said for all of that. It doesn't make you any more or less important if the way you support The 'Ville is not monetary.
And please try to recall, there are also people here who would like to sponsor other people who cannot afford to do it... be it because they are students or whatever. Why? Just another way of supporting not only The 'Ville but the people of The 'Ville. This is a community... and I believe that the people here respect that.
Good Lord... I need to shut up now.
Big hugs to you all. _________________

Well put guys/girls thanks.
The reason I suggested perks for people who could donate is for two things.
1.) Reward them and say thanks for your support
2.) Motivate some who might have needed that little extra push
Do you really think we would let the people who can pay get snotty and abuse thier priviledges? Nobody is above The Ville law, heck if Frag were caught cheating we would shred him and if he did not leave in shame he would get banned (Frag=Hax0r + Cheetur)
I really did not want this thread to get into all these debates, all we were trying to do is get the number of people who would be able to contribute so that we could put together a more organised plan base on the sums we might recieve.
Also there would be no montly payment, it would be in one lump sum and good for six months and everybody would start at the same time otherwise it would be a bookeeping nightmare.
These are things I would like to see come out of this:
Two new blazzing fast game servers that run 24/7
Host this website on a much faster dedicated connection
Lobster dinner for Rob and family
Beer and Porn for the admins
I think it's time to move this topic to the admins forum so that we can hash out a plan with real numbers and then present it.
Read My Beak:
You will not required to pay to play here or use the website
Supporting membership will be subject to approval (llamas need not apply)
All funds will be sent to Rob (do you trust him? LOL)
Keep your filthy hands away from my Hoaxie |

I will support this entirely. The onlything that I ask in return is that the ville lives on. I will do WHAT ever it takes to make this possible. I will somehow gather the 60 dollars. This is a great idea IMHO. Everyone who can, please support this.

[Off Topic] The attitude problem was old about a month ago
[On Topic] what does the mayor have to say about all this?? I think it might do this cause well if everyone could hear what he had to say on the funds raising issue. _________________ Killing is my bidness ladies and BIDNESS IS GOOD!!!! |

Donating to support the Ville is great I just think there shouldn't be a minimum amount, after all every little bit helps! If you want to donate $60 or $5 or $25 then I think you should be able to.
The perks is the only part I'm not sure of.
Donate some $$$ for the good of the Ville if you want to... if you don't want to that's fine too.
That's just some more of my $.02!!! _________________

I've thought about this in the past, even was going to do it myself but I guess never really got around to it. I think its a very good idea, the added perks you get are good thoughts IMO. The only one I guess I dont really care for all that much is having a list of ppl that have given money to TV. Ya, its nice to have the recognition, but what about the ppl that didnt give. To them they may feel bad cause there name isnt on the list and I'm sure they would want to be looked at in a bad way, even though myself I wouldnt, they still may get that feeling.
Personally I'm all for money going torwards, #1 upgrading computers so they can handle the demand. TV3 chokes and causes lag spikes, esp on warpath. Fast connections so we can get good pings. I'm not overly concerned for having a FAST web service I guess. I dont want to sit all day either waiting for one page to load, but its not as important to me as just having the closest thing to a LAN game as possible.
I think the ppl that voted no need to feel comfortable in not having to pay, not that its not a good idea, but that no one here will hold it against them that they either chose not to pay money, or that they cant afford it.
Anyhow, just my .02 cents. |

I voted Maybe.
And I'm feeling slightly guilty for it.
I dont know about the 10 bucks a month thing. But I'm more then happy to send you 50 bucks whenever its needed. What I'd really like to see is more of a fundraising technique. Say for example, the ville needs a 2000 dollar server. Then you say 'We need 2000 dollars' and everyone chips until you have the money. Anyway... _________________
