I'm prepared to support The Ville. Just notify me and it's a done deal.

The reserved slot would be a cool idea but I don't think I'd even expect that. Just the benefit of knowing that TheVille will be here is enough reward for me. If my donation goes towards another server than that would be awesome. However the money issue is worked out is fine. I think this is a great idea and should be given some serious consideration. Even if we're not with <TVB> we are all brothers, and sisters, and should do what we can do help. Those that can't afford to pay shouldn't have to. Just continue to make this place the greatest place in the gaming community .

Sign me up, baby.

Who says it has to be 2 of 24 slots reserved? If we do this, then maybe make it 8 or so slots reserved. I'd save hours of time waiting to get on.

As stated previously, this would be totally optional - paying just gets you a little extra. I like a little extra... especially since I ain't getting any.

I'm with Brujah on the 'scary' part of this idea.....there are many ways this system could go wrong.
I'm voting no for now, mostly because my time at the 'Ville has been cut short recently due to work, travel, and summer activities. Oh yeah, and also because I'm a cheapo who feels I have enough monthly payments as it is.

My main thought on this subject is although I know it's NOT MANDATORY to 'Pay for the Ville', I have a bad feeling that some (SOME, not all) of the 'Paying Villuns' may develop an attitude that condemns non-payers and noobs like myself.
This displays that potential:
Quote:
Seriously though, all I would want for my money is a cool tag that I can lord over others that can't afford to pay. "Why yes, my -V$- tag does mean that I'm better than you".

I do want to support this community though, so if the 'Ville store supports the 'Ville, maybe I should go shopping.....

Quote:
Oh yeah just make sure those wiley canadians pay you in american dollars so you dont get cheated, what with the exchange rate and all

Yeeeeeeshh, that would make it like 200$ a year for me!!

Goon, I think if you read the post you quoted from again you'll see that, that was said in jest, at least I think it was. Even if there aren't any rewards offered I'm sure plenty of people here will still offer money to help support TheVille. If it meant more servers, or a faster connection, or more RAM for an existing server I'd be more than happy to give what's necessary. I think most people would do it because they love this place not because of the rewards Ktulu mentioned.

The difference between the Ville store and direct deposit is the middle man.
Rob does not produce the cups and hats and stuff. A 3rd party gets the lion share to cover that expense. We are essentialy buying them a boat or whatever. It is nice to get custom stuff for our passion but really how many cups and stuff can you actually buy.

I would rather get a much larger bang for buck by just giving directly to a server.

there are questions though. servers that are donated VS servers that are paid for. I can see the reserved slot thing being a bone of contention with only a few slots available. not to mention the upkeep of the records

But having web space and a safe and secure VILLE is good.
Having a avatar and tag is good.
Having a dedicated 24/7 server is good.

Im on the side of donations for the recreation I have chosen to enjoy.
If this just buys the server admins and Rob a dinner out at the restaurant of their choice well that is good enough.

I think enough people have responded in a postive matter that a plan can be developed and presented. Billing/ realistic goals and expectations need to be developed so we can all see if this can be done.

I do not want this to be done wrong and have it blow up in our face.
careful consideration will be required to assure everyone that this is a workable plan.

A goal should be set and then pledges given. when all the donations are in
then the server can be bought rented for an allotted time.
This way people can be assured that the money is being used effectivly.
If to many drop out or dont for some reason want to partake then we will know this before spending any monies for a partial and unworkable plan.
Then any monies that are not used for there intended purpose could be returned with no hard feelings. Or a new plan of attack using the monies available or maybe some deeper pockets can pick up the slack.

Just my $.02 so please don't flame me or stick me in the same group as Goldum j/k

The voluntary part of this is key, I think. When people pay for something, most expect something in return. It is that expectation of some level of service that may cause problems.

Ex. Let's say someone on a dial up, who can't pay $10/month, is playing and maybe is a little laggy, a person who pays may expect the dial guy to disconnect because he (dial up) is making the game laggy. I'm not saying this would happen, but I see people leave all the time the minute a server gets laggy. Sorta like when someone wants to snipe b/c a current sniper sucks. They run around screaming for the guy to change class. Is that fair if the guy is trying to practice to improve?

Anywho, the only suggestion I have is how about somekind of one time contribution? Say $25 or $50 or whatever. The only perk that is of any interest to me is the reserved name. I am building a house and will be getting cable modem($45/month) so I can't afford another $10 a month, but I would send a check for $25 or so.

The Ville kicks ass and I will support it the best I can.

Just as a note. A single player with a high ping does not lag down a server. The only thing that lags down a server is server side. If a single person is lagging than it is player side. This is just for those that didn't know.
I do understand what is being said about possible attitudes coming from this. It would have to be something that is addressed before anything like this is initiated I think. If someone came across with an attitude and said, "I payed to be here so stfu", I would definitely have a problem with that. However this server has lived by rule #1 for as long as I can remember and no one is above this, not even the admins. With that in mind, I think people would not cross any lines. If they did then I think they would have to be Bada Banned. I believe most people here still understand the rules and that no one os above that, no matter what the cost.

Thanks BRN... bad example I guess. My point was that it might mean more work for the Admins.

Guess I'll get back to polishing my noob badge so I can wear it proudly

I said i would give it more though and here is what i came up with:

1.) email address e.g. yourname@theville.org--np sounds good
2.) reserved name on the servers (protect your game name from being used by a llama imposter)-it could be good or bad and hell to maintain
3.) no ads or banners on this site (only supporters would not see the banners)-will the ad provider accept this?
4.) limited access to admin commands e.g. admin_mapvote, admin_funmode etc... -dont like 30 people starting a map vote scares me and changing it to fun mode in a serious map
5.) cool supporting avatar for the forums-np sounds good
6) first pick at any HLTV matches we have-np sounds good
7.) your name on The Ville Supporters Page-np sounds good
8.) Private access to once a month Ville Supporters Match (like TVB night)-np sounds good (FNF?lol)
9.) True names of all and any future KILAAKS-no no no
10.) special in game tag e.g. yourname-V$- np sounds good
11.) reserved playing spot on the game servers -not good

Over all I am not sure. I dont want to see a pay 4 play motto. The ville is a public server group and i dont want to see it get to restricted.

And the only way to take pyments would be online (aka credit cards). And who would handle error or probs for the paying people (Customer Service Team).

I think it's much too complex an idea. What will have to be done will cause infinite more work than our current state. We're counting on people that don't know each other in real life to send money or credit. My opinion is I wouldn't do it as an admin or not one.

IMHO I think that the whole issue is getting carried away, do this do that dont do this dont do that. If we are going to have a pay 4 play why not make it really simple and you pay or you dont get access. Leave a server for the general public and the classy servers for the ones that pay.

Yikes! Damn worry-worts!

Take the privileges away. I don't care if I get a reserved spot, or a map-vote, or even a tag. If there is someone willing to administer (correct usage?) another server, then give me his/her address and I'll send a check. I just want to see another 24/7 Neo server.

Now lets see, I have my account in the Caymans make a loan to my offshore warehouse. Then I buy a bond in my LLC. The LLC defaults, and I claim the loss as a tax write-off.... wait, is that how I had it set-up?

Don't worry, I'll get the money!

Frag brought up a good point.

Are you willing to send money to someone you do not even know? What if you send 20, 40, 100 dollars and TheVille shuts down the next week? This is just an idea. Ktulu, it's a great idea bro and your heart is in the right place for sure! Whether or not it is possible or not is beside the point. People. . listen. . .do you hear? TheVille needs money to stay alive. It has to come from somewhere. Rob can't keep shelling out dough forever and neither can the other server hosts. This place is special to us all but we could lose it all very easily. Bickering about what may happen because of it is doing nothing. You know what happens if we don't do something to help soon? Take a guess. There you have it. The question was, "Would you be willing to pay $10 a month to support TheVille"?

Who cares about perks and all that crap. I say, don't offer any perks. There, that's settled. People who donate will get no recognition at all. There, feel better? I am fine with that. Now I can help provide you all with fun in my own way. Will people still give me crap? Of course. Admins do their work for free and people give them crap ALL DAY LONG. Sounds like a lot of people do not want to help. That's fine. But don't give me that, "it's not going to work" crap just because you dont want to help out. Worried about being treated differently because you do not send money? Well you don't now and how are you treated? Have you ever even bought anything from TheVille store? If not, then you have no room to complain about anything as far as this subject goes.

TheVille needs help. Period. If you can't or won't help, that's fine. The rest of us will do our best to help keep this place here for you and all the rest of us. Jeez people. Always bickering about something. Always! Either help or step aside so we can.

sorry to rant. . . .
