TFC keeps crashing

When I play on my alternate computer, TFC keeps crashing. After about a minute of everything being normal, it just stops moving and loops a sound segment. After a few seconds, it goes to the next frame and loops another sound. This seems to happen most often when there is a lot of action going on screen. Here are the specs (it's supposed to be better than what I play with now):

1.6 ghz Pentium 4
256 MB RAM
Geforce2 MX 400 (don't know the memory but I'm sure it's sufficient for HL)
Windows XP

This was how it was assembled. I already installed the latest DetonatorXP drivers (29.42) for the geforce2. Is there a specific way to install the drivers, or can you just run the program and it does it by itself (that's what I did)? I hope I don't have to reinstall XP or anything like that. So if you could help me, please help!

*edit* Oh, I forgot to add. On other 3D games this happens too, like the Sims. *edit*

Sounds like here is a driver or resource conflict some where. Check for sound card updates. Creative (if that is the sound) has a bad habit of shipping old drivers with there cards. Otherwise reinstall the video card drivers again

The sound chip was made by C-media. I went to the website, but it looks like the driver is outdated. My chipset is CMI8738, driver version 636. But the one at the site is 632. Hmmmm...... I'll try to uninstall the video driver, then reinstalling it.

maybe it's your 3D card. it could be worn-out or not heavy enough for the fast moving screens.
I know somebody who had that problem and i told him to buy a new 3D card, he installed it and everything was bach to normal.

The Geforce2 is pretty new. It has 64 MB, when I checked on the box. I tried uninstalling the driver, then reinstalling, but no good either.

I've done some customizations that some people suggested, but it didn't work. And also, I can play demos perfectly fine.

It's just when I play it freezes.

It sounds to me like you might have your video card and sound card on a "shared" PCI slot. Some video cards are particular about what kind of card they share thier slot with. You might try moving the sound card to a different slot (unless it is a built into the motherboard kind). If that is the case then move your video card (unless it is an AGP) usually the PCI slot closest to the power supply is slot 1 and recommended for video.

Apparently not all the PCI slots are actually physically separate. Some of the slots are physically shared with others. One of my machines had my video card and my ethernet card in a shared slot and pissed them both off. I solved the problem by moving the ethernet card to the slot farthest from the power supply.
