To me this poll is useless. I hope we are not about to make a rule about that, or that ppl will actually *ask* for a rule. I never snipe, I too get pissed when sniped from underwater, but geez, I'm pissed when medic conc over my sg, I'm pissed when spies throw gren at my sg undetected, I'm pissed when demomen throw a MIRV without looking....BUT THAT'S THE DAMN GAME. Stop whining and find a way around it.

As for D3D and openGL, it's also another useless rant. All ppl accross North America have different systems/computer/mouse/CONNECTION (yeah, you know, some ppl fire faster than other in case nobody noticed...), so for God's sake, stop whining about some advantages ppl have and you don't. You probably have other advantages not that obvious.

My attitude to that game is I own with what I have. If somebody get pass me using a trick or because he use something I don't, I will try to get him back next pass with a trick or two.

Next time you see snipers in water in Rock2, change to a medic and conc over, then infect them. Or.... go on your snipers nest as demo, and throw a MIRV the other side, or change as snipers yourself and snipe them from the top. No need to see them, I think you see the name appear when you sight them.

Find a solution, there is always one.

dont entirely understand the whole openGL and D3D setting crap, but if you guys are gonna complain about the people using D3D, then why not use it yourself and kill them underwater before they kill you.

Well, for those of us that use OpenGL (myself included) D3D often doesn't work as well. I know in my case, it WORKS, TECHNICALLY, but in actuality, it is too slow. If I am running D3D, Iget a very lagged performance. Not a connection lag mind you, a video lag. I will be in game, move my mouse, and 2-3 seconds later the game will respond. I know this happens with others as well. So, its not like we OpenGL users can easily "level the playing field" by just using D3D as well. We use OpenGL because we have to, and because it works.

To be fair, the folks using D3D may not even realize that there are other players who cannot see out of the water. The game just happens to be like that . . . it's not like they intentionally went out of their way to find and install a cheat.

Just curious, but does anyone know how widespread D3D players are? Like OSU, I am completely unable to get smooth gameplay from D3D. Is that typical of NVIDIA cards?

I actually used to use direct3d with my older video card, mainly because opengl didn't work. With this new card of mine, opengl works fine so I use that. I think that d3d is probably about the same widespread as opengl or a little less. I may be wrong on that one though.

The only time i go under the water is when some engi grabs the suit in the sniper deck. i usually jump out and fall into the water. Now if ya got common since u know the other team did this too. so even though i can't see i start shooting and sometimes i'll get someone. Anyways most of the time i jump into the water, the other team usually has a sg and i get killed anyways. So its all gravy.

Easiest solution (what PJ said): Conc past them!! They won't be helping out their team anymore, since they can't hit you, and then you get on with your life.

Oh look, d3d water snipers are invincible again.

GG HLguard.

The only problem is, that there are only some maps where you can conc past a water sniper. Rock2 you can, sure, but what about well? you going to conc through the tube? Onto the roof? Yeah, that helps. There are others like that, even though the majority are like rock2's case.

I sometimes snipe underwater. I don't have anything to let me see underwater or anything though. I pretty much only do it on 2fort, you can stand ontop of the light, crouch down, and can cover the whole water area. This defend's your base, and its a legal part of the game.

I don't think that is the issue here. I think the main issue is them being able to see you if they use d3d and you can't see them if you use opengl. I think valve should fix this bug or make some kind of change. They are so anti-cheat, well, here is a cheat they built right into their system.
