Tomorrow is remembrance day, I thought I would be serious for once, and post something about the war.

116,000 Canadian soldiers killed in World War 1 and 2. 116,000 Canadian families devastated. With the invention of the machine-gun, and many other new technologies World War 1 and 2 were the bloodiest wars ever fought. In World War 1 soldiers were forced to live in narrow trenches, infested with rats and lice. Many of the deaths in World War 1 and 2 were attributed to disease. There are many stories about the atrocities of war. Men walking with no feet, forced to run on their stubs across no man’s land. Men without jaws, men having their faces burned off. One soldier recounts seeing his captain folding his arms across his stomach, to keep his intestines from falling out of his eviscerated thorax. One man was holding his arm artery to keep himself from bleeding to death. These are just some of the horrendous facts of war.

In the storming of Juno beach, one soldier bravely jumped on barbed wire, so that his compatriots could walk on top of him, his brave act saved most of his platoon. There is another story of a pilot giving up his own life to save the life of his tail gunner.

These men and women gave up their lives, their families, and their sanity so that we could live in peace and freedom, and for that I salute you.

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch, be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

John McCrae 1887-1918
John McCrae, a medic in world war one was diagnosed with pneumonia and died on January 28th. He entered the war a happy and outgoing man. He died bitter and disillusioned, after seeing the numerous losses in France.

We are floating on their tears
on a sea of their couarage
selflessly layed down by
people of dreams and commitment
may there memory never fade
their sacrifice never forgotten
may their lives and loves be remembered
each day thru continued committment to
the ideals that we all love and enjoy

Heres to you who have served your country in time of war.
Heres to Bada Bing I salute you.
Heres to all the rest I don't know here and the many I know but won't read this.

Heres to hoping you and yours will not have to sacrifice so much.

Great idea The_Avenger. Thanks for posting this thread.
