Ok first off I want to say that I have Charter coming out to check the lines to my house tomorrow and I wanted to see if there is anything else that could be the problem before they get here.
Here's my comps specs.
800 mhz P3
300something RAM 20gig hard drive
Nvidia 128 PCI
run in OpenGL 400 x 800
during non-'peak' hours I usually ping around 60ish and usually lower. However starting now around 6 every single day my ping will suddenly shoot up around 500 and continue rising. It didn't use to start untill later in the day and it use to be much lower, but has steadily risen to the levels that it is at today. My choke usually hangs around 60ish and 0 packet loss.
If you have any idea of what some problem could be other than the modem then let me know. _________________ "Don't be so humble - you are not that great."

Not much I can tell you Computer, sorry. But I did want to add that I have been having a lot of spikes in game recently as well. I will be doing just fine at around 70ish, and then jump to 400. It seems to happen more on Ville I, than the others.
I did install XP Pro, but I don't think that is the problem. Is there something I should do differently?
I hope you get it fixed Computer...good luck. _________________ Been chasing since May 2001!

I have XP Home, and I just found out that a program called 'QoS' takes up some bandwidth, even though it is unused. But I also hear the XP Pro reserves 20% of your bandwidth for "some reason". If you haven't checked that out, then that is something else to investigate. |

I have been having ping/lag problems lately too, upwards of 3000.
Last night I had a ping of 4000!
Usually I am around 400.
Can't wait until my house is built and I get cable! _________________

If your connection is a rock most times but goes terrible during certain peak times it is more than likely your ISP being overwhelmed. Not much you can do to fix this.
However, I do have one though. When I used to have a 56k connection I had two different config files. In one have lag settings which take advantage of your good connection, and one that has lowered settings which will allow you to play even when the connection is bad. _________________ The most hated.

Thanks for the info Raphx. I checked into that, and did a few tweaks. It still seems to happen. I believe it is my game though, and I will do a complete uninstall/reinstall later. I don't notice any other network problems with other games and sites. _________________ Been chasing since May 2001!

I take it you have cable. The one one good thing about DSL it is dedicated.
I runn at about 120ms lag always no matter what (the ville servers are 1200 to 3200 miles away from me). Res is set at I think the 1280 x something res (I have configed too many games to remember the best opp mode for this one).

Yes, I do have cable, but the connection does not seem to have any problems with other things. DSL is dedicated, but only up to a point. Anywho, I normally don't have any lag, as my ping stays pretty constant around 70ish, but just recently it has had spikes. I didn't notice them until the newest patch came out and I got XP pro at the same time. I will do the full install patch and just reinstall the whole game. No biggie... _________________ Been chasing since May 2001!
