| Ya, a Nvidia GF4 MX4400 is slower than my old ATI radeon 64mb ddr. Dont waste your money on it. I get 90-99 fps constantly with my now 70 dollar vid card. Your 7500 should be one step above mine I do believe so you have either a computer that is bottlenecking the vid card terribly or something else going on conflicting with that card. What speed processor do ya have? Is it agp, if so is it 1x, 2x, or 4x agp slot? Some specs on you computer would be handy. |

My GeForce3 kicks the ass of GeForce4, overclocked with a custon cooling fan and heatsink. I can tear games up in 1024x768 with over 500 fps even on the newest advanced games and my fps report from TFC can reach over 900. Yeah, there's no possible humanly way to see that many frames a second and I don't think monitor refresh rate can keep up with that. But damn that's some blazing speed. I also turn on all the highest settings on games graphics wise because I know my system can handle it and then some. Beautiful crisp graphics faster than the human mind can process, that's what its about, and that's what I need for 3D Rendering and Video editing that I do.
some frame rate knowledge.
The human eye sees motion with 10 FPS and more. Under 10 and it will look jerky like a series of pictures.
Most things are 29.9 FPS, cartoons, TV, stuff like that. They usually round it off to 30.
Flash and web animations are usually 12-15 FPS, just fast enough to fool the human eye.
1/1000 of a second, or 1000 FPS is so fast 1 single frame goes by and only your subconsious will catch it. If someone blew up in 1/1000 of a second they would be there, and the next thing you'd know is they were gone, you wouldn't be able to catch any detail of what happened.
The Human brain processes things at about 250 mph (don't know the kph sorry) and can really only react to things at 90 mph. _________________ World of Warcraft:

i tested this out today... i changed my config to fps_max 0 and jumped on a server i got a max of 20 fps... wich totally sucks so i opend the console and typed fps_max 9999 and it jumped up to over 500 with my ati card... dont know if that helps any but still its kinda odd that it would go to 20 with the option set to 0 in config... _________________

You can return the card even if you used it. If its not working for you it doesn't work.
Also, geforce 2 and 3 series cards can work with agp 1x systems like DK said.
Whats your processor speed? Memory specs? PC specs? That will help us out.
The only thing I hate about turning off v-sync is visual tearing. You guys actually play in that? I rather have it smooth at 85fps-100fps than jerky with v-sync off and at 100's of fps in TFC>
I hope you figure out your problem Borg. Good luck man. _________________

20 fps is as low as the engine will go as a setting. fps_max 0-19 still will equal 20. Of course if your system can't get you at least 20 fps, it will drop below that. Don't think it is your card. We have an old celeron 266 with an old 3dfx/Voodoo 3 1000 or whatever they called it back then and can still push out 60 fps, in OpenGL, in single player and it can still play online reasonably. Is there any other card sharing your video IRQ? Make sure you don't have a card in slot 1, if you are running an AGP card. The AGP slot and slot 1 are usually shared. It does sound like something that is bottlenecking. Half-life doesn't take a very powerful computer to play at reasonable speed. (considering what you can get nowadays). Did your computer ever run the game at reasonable speed? Does the sound cut out wen playing? Do you have the latest drivers? What mode are you running in? How much memory do you have? What is the processor speed? _________________ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - |
