I just got a radeon 7000 64 meg DDR card today and I can't get high frame rates. I have the fps_modem xxx command set to 100 and I am only getting about 20 - 30, maybe more at times. I updated the drivers. Also when in at least 640 by 480 and color 16bit color, the colors are all messed up. I really would like some help. _________________ I need to make a sig, but I don't have the time. Maybe I will eventually. |

I would suggest setting to a higher resolution with OpenGL. 640 x 480 just looks funny no matter how you look at it. Your rate is somewhat dependant upon what speed connection you have and what monitor you use. With my current connection (768Mbps cable, 17" monitor) I get only 30fps when playing online, but I get 70 when I play a LAN game. On my Dad's monitor(19") I get 95 fps on a LAN game without changing anything. So, if you have access to a different monitor for testing purposes, I'd give it a shot and see if it makes any difference, and for dialup, I'd set your fps_modem to around 70 just so you don't get overloaded with data and try changing your rate as well to something like 3000. When I was on AOL dialup with a terrible phone line, anything above 3000 gave me trouble. (cl_flushentity packet errors) If you have any questions, feel free to ask me in a PM or just reply to this post, and I'm sure others can help you out as well. |

I will try a lan game, but I think the problem lies with my monitor. I am running a fairly old monitor, this is my original monitor, which can go above 640 by 480. Right now, I have my rate set to 5500, but am going to lower it to 5000. I have no problems with the flush entity packets. My fps_modem is set to 100, but I am only getting about 20 - 40 fps. Any idea on what console commands would be able to add more detail into the game? _________________ I need to make a sig, but I don't have the time. Maybe I will eventually. |

Try adding max_fps "100" to your autoexec.cfg. _________________ The most hated.

First, Torak, that command is close to the real command, the real command is fps_max, and I have it set to 72, but my framerate is no where near there.
Second, I have this weird problem with my colors at 16 bpp. I can't really describe it but I will try. The taskbar is green, TFC is different from what it should be and is flashing when I load. The main menu to TFC is a brownish(I think) color that is different from what it should be. Please tell me if this is could be a defective card, or if it is a known issue. _________________ I need to make a sig, but I don't have the time. Maybe I will eventually. |

bttt,
Please help me. I really need it. I just got through with trying to get my previous, and old, video card working. The graphic quality is better, but the framerates are the same as the Diamond Viper v330 4 meg AGP 1x card that I used to use. _________________ I need to make a sig, but I don't have the time. Are you sure when you installed the G-Card that you properly installed the software and set it up. I can't seem to remember cause it was a while ago but I believe I ran into similar problems and I think that solved it. The G-Card you have is a good one and you should be able to run at some pretty high resolutions with it.
Another thing to check would be your bios settings maybe. I'm not to familiar with those settings however with my other machine I remember making settings in there as well that made some improvements.
I know everything I have said is really vague but hopefully you know a little bit than I do about computers or someone will jump in who is and be a little more specific on the advice. G/L _________________
