virus

........i found a virus this morning. its in my music files (KaZaA light). it says (norten antivirus) that it cant be repaired. Im not a big computer guy so any ideas!?

That's an incomplete DAT file which turns into the MP3 or movie etc. file you get once the download is finished

If you are running Windows ME, or XP, you can do a system restore to revert your computer back in time before you caught the virus.

W32.Shermnar.Worm is worm which attempts to spread through the peer-to-peer Kazaa network. It creates multiple copies of itself on an infected machine under a variety of names. It may be found as a file named NortonAntivirus2002UpdateInstaler.exe.

When W32.Shermnar.Worm is run, it does the following:

It creates the C:\Windows\Fonts\^-^ folder.

It then creates multiple copies of itself in this folder as various names. These names may include:

Baldur's Gate-Full Downloader.exe
3.exe
4.exe
ScaryMovie2-FullDownloader.exe
StarWars2 - CloneAttack - FullDownloader.exe
Spiderman-FullDownloader.exe
Shakira.exe
Gladiator-FullDownloader.exe

if i where you i would delete the file as soon as possible. Because if it begins to spread to you're computer you can forgit it.
And its known that Kazaa puts little files into everything you download.
Its a sort of spyware that you're computer can't detect.
And it's also known that they put viruses in the downloads and mostly you're computer only see it a couple of days or weeks later.

I read about this one. It's a worm that originated on Kazaa and Morpheus. What it does is makes itsself look like the file you want to download on someones computer. So it looks like you're getting an MP3. But in actuality you are downloading the worm. When the worm gets on your computer it copies itsself over and over and over again filling up your harddrive space.

It also uses yu to infect other Kazaa/Morpheus uses then by looking at the files you are sharing and copying itsself to look like those files so people download some "MP3" that you have, and they're really getting a crafty worm that will do the same thing on thier system as it did on everyone elses.

Also, There's a new virus alert. A virus that can be transmitted vie a jpeg picture. Its a 2 part virus, one .exe that gets on your computer some other way i.e. you download a .zip or get some infected program. Later if you download the infected jpg the .exe part of the virus will activate it and ta da, you've got a virus. If you get the jpg though and don't have the .exe part on your computer it cant do anything, and the jpg picture will be obviously corrupt if you try to view it.

*Just have an antivirus program with up to date virus definitions delete any virus you find.
