I never realised how good medics could be on O, until I saw Dahak play in The Ville Cup. He ran rings around the D. It's the conc jumps I loved watching.

BBF, I miss your short, but very funny, signature.

Medics are the best class on offense. With well balanced grenades, a super shotgun, speed, and the ability to take out SGs and disable defense, it's by far the best against a decent defense. For defense, however, they just suck. Soldier, demoman, engineer and HWguy are better on D than medic. So I chose soldier as most versatile. They're by far the best on defense, and a very good heavy support offensive unit.

NOTE: All my comments are based on assumption that we are talking about CTF maps

The most versatile class is by far the soldier. They are great at O since they're able to kill sg's, HW's, other soldiers, etc. and they can move fast if you learn how to. They're great on D as well, since they can just maul people while still moving fast enough to dodge attacks. Now I will take the time to point out the downsides of every other class

Scout- great O, but no D cause....yeah

Medic- great O, but they can be rendered useless on D against a coordinated O

Engineer- great D, but they're main weapon on O is an emp. And if the D is smart enough to toss their packs then the emps will only weaken them, but most likely not do any real damage, even if they took all the emps head on. They can take out sg's, but you would have to be able to spam 2 emps at it before you got killed, though 2 grenades can do the same damage to it.

Demo- Great D if played right, and they're O can be fairly good if they can spam without hurting their teammates (good luck). A demo that is very good without spamming can be a formidable O and D player. But the fact that it's harder to learn skill up to there puts demo in 2nd place IMHO

HW guys- Just the opposite of scout, great D but their slow speed and the fact that they're slower when firing makes them a not-very-good-O-person. While HW's do have the firepower and nades, they'er easy to kill with their slow speed. Demo makes a nice sub since they're much faster and still have mirvs.

Sniper- Good D if they can play the class well enough, but they're easily killed. Not very good O, since they don't have a lot of fire power

Spy- Sometimes good O, but they're no good for D unless they get lucky and someone turns theur back without noticing them.

Pyro- Can be a good O and can also be distacting to the D. But the fact that they're not really powerful makes them more like a fly to the D or O, rather then an obstacle

Civilian- Forget soldier, this creep rules on both O and D!! He's fairly fast for his chubbiness and carries a sweet looking umbrella! And can you imagine how much strength he must have in that arm of his?!?! I mean, being able to kill someone with an umbrella in a couple of hits is pure strength! He is THE MOST versatile class I have ever seen. He's like a god!

Ralphx you made my point:

Talking about the ville cup I didnt see any medics on D...Dahak was pretty tough as medic...but looking at the total picture in the championship game hellschwin played about 50% soldier, 30% medic, and 20% scout...this combo of speed (dahak the medic) with power (hellschwin the soldier) gave them a nasty 1-2 punch in the enemy base.

If your looking for versatile the soldier was offense and defense...

My definition of defense is someone that prevent the other team from capping. Forget frags and all that other stuff b/c that's not what is really important. I just dont' think Medics pack enough fire power on defense to prevent a cap.

One thing that hasn't been brought up yet. The environment really would make a medic useful, or not useful on D. In leagues, you will never ever see a medic on D, but here on the ville you probably would.

You never ever see a medic on D in leagues because you'd get banned from the server and the league if you used medics on D. Not because they're not useful, but because the leagues fear the power that the medic has. They even bitch about getting infected on some servers... That's like telling a solder he can't use his rocket launcher because it does too much damage and isn't fair to the attacking team.

Medics would dominate the leagues if they were allowed to play both aspects of a CTF map.

Hmm... I'm still trying to make the transition

But demomen have a use on most maps for blowing holes in walls or grates, can make reasonable jumps, albeit hurting themselves and not as good as a medic or scout. Nice, destructive MIRV grenades When on D, demomen can change their strategies according to how the rest of the team is performing, in that either they can be aggressive and use their grenades and MIRVs, or sit back and use pipes. In attack, however, they can only hope to make their way forward with MIRVs or detpacks, hoping to be left alone until they can hit their targets.

our comming on well as a demo -- every time i play avanti and your in their too -- every few miniutes the top right of the screen if filled with 4/5 ppl u just killed in one go -- keep practicing and u will soon b indestructable -- lol

i really need to practice at different classes -- cos when the classes im sort of used to r gone im just left with somthing unfamiliar and i get slaughtered

What have you been smokin'?

Medic does not have enough fire power to play defense. I believe the primary reason they are not permitted in league play to play defenese is becuase their ability to chase. This is purhaps the only possible advantage to playing medic on defense, you can turn and follow the enemy you don't have enough firepower to take down in front of you.

O medic vs D medic -- toss up who wins, whoever is the better medic (0)
O scout vs D medic -- 50% the scout gets by without major harm (0)
O soldier vs D medic -- piece of cake for the soldier to win, gets by with nearly full health (0)
O demo vs D medic -- if demo man is skilled then he gets by very easily as well (0)

Now, it may just be me but it seems like an awful lot of O is getting by the uber defensive medic.

O medic vs D soldier -- ez kill for the soldier (1)
O scout vs D soldier -- yawn kill for the soldier (1)
O soldier vs O soldier -- my personal fav. (yeah right) toss up who gets away, probably defense 2 to 1 (.5)
O demo vs D soldier -- another hard one, 3 to 1 defensive soldier (1)

Final score: Medic - 0 Soldier - 3.5

I'd say the soldier is clearly the much much much better defender.

Thanks, bobins Also, I ought to improve on other classes, too. I just like using you as a target for my sniping

That's just being bad losers. Also, it's like buying a television, and not watching it.

Well, that's all I have to say.
