soz -- i thought 56k modems came standard with comps and that most ppl would have them
|
But if the quality of the phone line or the load on the ISP's terminal
servers is high, you will get slower speeds.
Myself, I have cable. 1.5 megabit/s down (only
256 kilobit/s up tho. Bah.) _________________

It's BT's job to make sure the land line outside your house is in good condition. If it isn't they will replace it. At their expense , so get onto them about it.
And I got a Terayon modem given to me by NTL. I know of some others who already have their own CM, so are only paying £20/month for the 512 service. Although it would take over a year to save money after buying it then getting the cheaper service |

the same thing happened to me with the phone lines -- i was only connecting at 8k -- can u believe it 8k -- so i called ntl -- their who im with -- but u would phone bt -- and they came out dug up the street found my line -- some git had half cut through it -- so they replaced it free of charge and im now connecting at 44/48k a big improvement but still not good |
