I played Chrono Cross last summer and loved it. I'm considering getting an RPG for this summer too. I saw FF7, FF8, and FF9 at the mall for cheap. Which would you suggest? So far it looks like people like FF7.

Personally, I liked them all. I guess if you're going to get a single one....go with 9. IMHO, the graphics and story went a bit more smoothly than 7, but if money is no object...get all 3.

Did you know you can make your own RPGs on your computer? You can use RPGMaker 2000. It has like SNES level graphics but is pretty easy to use once you figure it out. These sites are hard to find in english, but I managed to hunt one down at:

http://www.geocities.com/ev_soft/downloads.htm (The English RTP file that you need to use it)

http://rm2k.phantomrpg.com/ (Has the actuall program as well as the RTP. Don Miguel is the original translator (as far as I know) and this is where I got mine)

Another good site is http://www.rmdownloads.com

Strange as it may sound, some people can really make very cool games with this program

Legends of Legaia, Gauntlet Legends

*shivers* two of the worst games ever made... and to think that i originally got ps1 for Legaia... and anyone who said Diablo1/2.. just... no. (yes i know im opinionated.)

EQ is good. I wouldnt call it an RPG though.

FF7 is best RPG ever, no question.
After that I'd say Crono Trigger (not Cross, ick..)
And then.. um.. FF6, that game is great.

And at the very very bottom -

FF8 - no question, most sorry excuse for a FF ever made.

I've only played FF 7, 8, and seen 10, and the worst one I'd say is 10. It's got graphics, good combat system, and all this other stuff. But it's a little weird and bliztball is very strange indeed. Even stranger, the guy looks like a girl!!!
That's my opinion at least....

Oooh, I totally forgot about that one... yeah, that game pretty much absorbed my summer about 5 years ago. Good call, JR

Resident evil are considered RPGs now.

What is this world comming to.

BBF: I know my RPGs.

Secret of Evermore and Earthbound were close too that, but, secret of mana just had something special about it. Maybe it was that cute pixie chick.

An addon, i forgot about Fallout... one wasn't too great, though two was awsome.

Oh, and Ten still beats out 7. (That's right, i said it. )

Which one? I never noticed... maybe i'm not paying attention.

Graphics are the most important thing to me, so that's why i say it's best. They didn't pull any punches on mini games though, so, beating the quest is a lesser part of the game... which isn't really a good thing. Other than that i still like it.

Eh. Also i have to say 9. Why? Cause ViVi is in it. And ViVi rox0r.

Duh, Tidus is a feather haired freak. He looks like a girl, talks like one, and acts like an idiot. He also dresses in a more then interesting outfit......

Most Might and Magics
Wizardy 8
Morrowind
Dungeon Siege

Except for Dungeon Siege, these are pretty hardcore and slightly open ended. I like that route.

When you mentioned Morrowind I just remembered Daggerfall. That game looks like DOOM but you can actually spend a lifetime playing it. It's just that non-linear.

I'll always have a special place in my heart for Wasteland. Yes, the dusty old classic for the Commodore 64. Post-nuclear cyberpunk RPGs kick ass. (The Fallout series is an unofficial sequel to this game, BTW.)
