Well, the "big event" for memorial day weekend for me went something like this:
7:20am wake up
8:30am start 2-hour drive
9:00am breakfast on the road
11:00am attend catholic mass (I'm definitely not catholic)
12:30pm loiter in church waiting for baptism to FINALLY start
1:00pm start of baptism ceremony
...
3:00pm baptism done, leave church for "after baptism gathering"
3:00 - 5:00pm hundreds of photos taken of relatives' kids, I start to twitch
5:00pm finally eat food again, twitch fades a little
5:30pm done eating food, start twitching again
6:30pm finally the "party" is winding down
7:00pm leave for home and some errands (collect money, buy stuff)
7:15pm find out that someone who owes me $225 "moved home"... to F'ing South Dakota.
7:45pm store in mall of america that I wanted to buy rare games in closed
7:52pm start 1:45 drive home

Sounds like fun BBF

I thought the American Memorial Day was on July 4th. No, wait, that's Independence Day, isn't it? Then what's Memorial Day? I should have listened when we were doing American History last year ...

Sorry Roof, it wasnt intended to be a low point. I was reading your post and getting far too hungry for a good BBQ which I could not make happen.

I think perhaps we should start planning the first Ville virtual BBQ so that nobody has to suffer. What do you all say? Post your suggestions on how were going to do this.

Since a virtual BBQ is going to be attended by lots of people I think JD better get a side of that world famous Alberta Beef so that there will be steaks for everyone!! Heck, I may even get some Bison as long as the Kilaaks promise to not crash the party.

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service.

Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, in his General Order No. 11, and was first observed on 30 May 1868

Omega, Memorial Day is a day when we honor our countrymen who have given their lives in past wars to defend our freedom.

However, I think many peaople just see it as an excuse to party and pay no heed to what the holiday was created for.

I always thought it was an excuse for corporate America to have *another* clearance sale....

(note: sarcasm ahead)

Oh, and July 4th is a celebration of my birth....I like fireworks. Every year they seem to have them all over the country. I can't figure out what I did to have the entire nation celebrate my birthday....
