Problems talking through my mic. in game

ok, When i am playing tfc i want to be able to talk to people thru my mic. but it doesn't work, yes i enabled everything in customize and configuration, and set a key to it in the control menu, now do i have to bind something to it or what,.........Right before i enter the game in my console it says something like, "Unable to initialize directsoundcapture and waveln.mmsystem004, Your sound is already in use please try again later" what the hell should i do, Bada Bind helped me and didn't know what the problem was so anyone know what i should do?

My mic is also plugged in, but when I use it the sound is garbled....can anyone help us?

What card are you plugging the mic into? I know when I tried to plug my mic into an ISA sound card (ie. Sound Blaster 16) it would give me that message. More info on your system would be more useful. I think I may have a good deal of knowledge of the voice system with all of my tinkering around with it trying to get it to not show that message. But there is a chance that I won't be able to help, but you can't be sure unless you give me more info.
