Yeah, the demos who detonate their pipes near you are the Gurus. Dead man walking and EE are the ones I've seen do that to extremely good effect. You also need to take into account where you are with the decision to use GL grenades or pipebombs. If you're in a nice confined space, then GL grenades work great, otherwise pipes are probably a better choice if you can time their detonations. I've tried to do that, but I can't time it right, my lag makes it impossible. (That's my story, and I'm sticking to it! hehehe)

I think that Bitter Beer Face is right!!! (gasp)

The question reads, Which class is the hardest to learn? The variety of options that an engie has is more extensive than any other class. To become proficient in all of those options is time consuming.

I think you guys are answering a different question:
Which class is the hardest to become good at?

I agree that med and demoman are the ones that I find most difficult to be really good at, but I will throw out one pick that no one else will mention...
HWGuy!

The reason I mention HWGuy is because of my experience on TheVille. I always thought of it as a really simple class until running into the HWGods. Y'all know who they are. I have no idea how they got so good at this class, but to reach the level that some of these folks have reached takes more skill than I possess.

.....Spy....Spy spy.

It's hard to become a good spy. First of all, you have to have an ok ping so you can catch people on the run and in a furious battle, as well as to knife them in the sweet spot before they make the slight turn. (I suck at all of these. Gah!)

Then you have to figure out which class disguise works the best for you, and easily throwing two grenades at an sg without standing there and looking at it...looking at it...looking at it....also you have to find out a bit about the human mind, by which i mean that you must find ways to become more "un-spy-like" in appearance to people.

Well, that's my opinion. and Kirby agrees with me.

1) Soldier - I don't care that the question is wich is harder to learn, rather then be good at, because IMHO, you havn't learned soldier until you can....rocket jumping in the right direction and doing it well, be able to hit enemyies feet constantly, remember to reload (SCRIPT JUNKIES!!!), use shotty when needed, be able to hit enemies in mid-air (no wall used to help, and this IMHO again, is the hardest part to learn), and for you crazy HW haters, be able to maul a HW (the HW gods are of course a rather good exception from this)...and once you have learned all this, then you are good! So

2) Medic/Demoman - I know demoman can be a hard class to play, but after awhile, it's easy to nail a few things on the head. Mainly all about timing with those GL grenades and you have to learn where to place detpacks for the "high traffic areas". Demo is also hard, since if you can't hit dead on with those GL grenades or miss with regular nades, then your best resort is the shotty (good luck defending yourself there). Medic comes in a tie for second because of the fact that the need to be able to conc pretty dang well, or at least use them to their advantage. The fact that they are slower then the scouts and don't have explosives (besides nades) to protect themselves and attack with also makes it hard on them. And, even though this falls under the category of being a GOOD medic, I'd still say that you need to learn how to infect yet heal at the same time.

3) Spy/Engi - Now I know that engineer is a dang easy class to play, but to learn their power to your full advantage (NTF sux0rs), you have to work pretty hard. Those EMP's they have are priceless if they want to live, but they have to be placed just so somewhere. Dispensers may seem small but can make a HUGE difference in defense. If not to kill people, then just to block them and warn you of their approach. As for spy, I know it can be a hard class to learn, but a lot depends on your ping. A 300 ping to a 100 ping can make the difference between being able to pull off a 50-50 in a game to a 100-30. I sometimes don't even bother to disguise if the enemy is good at killing spys, because it's not even worth the trouble. The hardest part about spy is to learn to stay low when you have to, and attacking full front when needed. Another major part of spy is feigning. It's seems easy to learn, but to use it to your full advantage isn't. Some people are just that stupid to think you died under their AC fire.

As for pyro and scout (which seem to be the next two). Their easy to learn, especially scout. Use your concs to an advantage like the medic. You may have a measly shotty, but you're dang fast. And the best part about being fast is to be able to "rodeo" things like sg's. The main thing to learn in pyro is to use your nades effectively, and be sure to pull what out when. Now, I'm going to shutup, because this is the longest post I have written

{edit} I know I have already written a lot, but I just now voted and saw how high up pyro is. Let me just put it this way for pyro. IT ISN'T that hard to learn. Just try it, and after awhile it gets pretty easy. I'm no god of TFC and was able to get better then 50 points with pyro and less then 40 deaths after about 15-20 trys. Sorry, but I just get all freaky when I see something like pyro being voted for, when half the people only imagine how hard it is, but never actually try it, or stick with it and try to get good because they see it as "impossible" or just a "mess around" class. {/edit}

I'll just say that an untouchable scout fills me with the largest amount of respect.

What does speed have to do with rodeoing an SG? I could understand how it would be important when circling an SG (but how does it help with sitting on top of one)?

scouts can also get on top of sg's if good enough and just stay on the other side from the gun.

Medics can too. I thought rodeoing an SG is where you get on top of it and ride it like a bull. Circling...is running circles around the SG. Just be careful not to out do yourself. You can over run the SG and end up in front of the gun barrels...lol

For me, It's the Spy.
I guess I have a run in and kill'em attitude, and the spy changes all the tactics that come naturally to me in TF.
You have to act like the enemy, disguise in the right class, not be to quick to attack, and stab the right spot on different classes.
I just like to go in and kill! That type of play makes for one dead spy! (I know that from experience!)
