I am having trouble with the voice system. I can hear people, but no one can hear me. My microphone works correctly, and I have set the volume in the voice tweak utility. I have bound a key to record the voice, but nothing happens. Please help me.

besides that I am using e as my key, mine has that entry in it. I press and hold e while trying to talk into the mic, but no one seems to be able to hear it.

When you hold the transmit key, do you see the little speaker icon in the lower right of your screen? If you do, you may want to go into the TFC loader and check Multiplayer/Customize, and make sure all the Voice related boxes are checked, and both the send and receive sliders are all the way to the right.

Borg, I changed mine right in the controls link in TFC. There is a place to specify what key you want to use. And, I think that E is defaulted to something else like open doors, etc. Anyhoo, try setting it through the actual TFC controls button. Make sure that after you do the Tweak that your mic doesn't get muted through the system. Check in your volume control by double clicking on your volume icon by the clock. I mentioned this in another thread, but everytime I do the tweak, my system mutes the mic and I have to go back and deselect that box.

Unfortunately, that didn't help either.

Borg, you left the game before I could finish telling you this. I think you need to upgrade your soundcard. The one you have was never intended for this. For under $50 you can get the Creative Labs Sound Blaster PCI 512. It is a very good card for the money!

Thanks for that info, but before I buy a new sound card, I desperately need a new video card, so once I get money, whenever that is, I will get a video card, and if I have extra, I may look into getting a new sound card. For now though, as long as I can hear people, I guess I am in good shape.

Put this in your game shortcut:

"+voice_dsound 1"
needs the inverted commas apparently

or failing that, is it something silly like your mic being muted?
Are you able to use the windows sound recorder?

Here's something else to watch for: more than one mic input. My computer has both front and rear mic inputs, so Windows sees them as Mic 1 and Mic 2. I usually use the front one (mic 2) for convenience, but as soon as you launch HL, it switches over to Mic 1 no matter what input you had selected in Windows. So the mic worked perfectly until you played Half Life, when all of a sudden it magically disappeared. This drove me nuts until I finally gave in and plugged the mic in the back!

I will try this, but what do you mean about inverted commas?

Ok, I just typically don't hear them called that.

No luck yet. But what OBH has said is correct. I need to get rid of my ISA sound card and get a pci sound card. I didn't know this until OBH said it. I wished that there was a way to get this working on my Sound Blaster 16. Oh well though. I guess I will have to do without.

Well, Borg, I wish I had enough time to send ya $50 before the match Tuesday so you could get your card.
