Scripts

I had asked a long time ago about using scripts for laying pipe bombs or rocket jumping, etc. I think I remember Rob saying that they were illegal here, but now I know there is some question.

Is it against the rules to use a script to lay pipe bombs straight down as a demoman?

I think the rule is: you can't use a script that can do something you can't do yourself in game. Dropping a pipebomb strait down is impossible as a demo, so that script would be illegal. IMHO that is

Im with Whybkuul on that one.
Plus the semi official idea is learn to do it yourself. If your using a script to place pipes your cheating yourself on how to do it correctly.
Now having it set up to switch guns back and forth is a good example of using binds and such in a Ville type manner. But some would say this is not desired either.
A auto load would be frowned upon IMO.
Mostly its a case by case basis. There are so many opinions, that I expect this thread to GROW!

If it is against the rules, would breaking that rule be worthy of a ban? I don't think it is a serious as cheating, but I do think it is unfair to the rest of the players.

I know we were in a game last night and someone asked if scripts can be used. I thought that was pretty honest of him for asking. I didn't know how to answer because of some scripts are just for multiple keystrokes and not for any real advantage purposes. I would never play while using scripts. Doesn't seem right to play any other way than to individually hit the keys and use your skill to determine the outcome. There is no real way to detect scripts other than visually. Don't think you could prove anything. I just go by the thought of if I am using a script to my advantage and still get beat by someone who isn't using a script, then I must really be pitiful.

It's not that hard to do a rocket jump or pipe jump manually anyway. For pipe jump scripts, you have to lay the pipe first, then you have to stand on the pipe and push the button. You jump and det at the same time. So there's no real point in using a script, doing it manually is just as easy and you can control where you jump.

Rocket/Pipe/Conc jump scripts are all useless. None of them work as well as someone doing them on their own.

My question lies in what about scripts for building sentry guns/dispensers?

And feign scripts that drop the pack on top of you are lame. (period)

Scripts and OGL's are all friggin' cheats to me. I mean, they do make you play better but your getting help from something else rather than your natural talent. Pure skillz is where it's at. Using scripts isn't skillz, it's cheating. And it will make you look bad if your caught and I hope that doesn't happen to you my brotha.

hm the pipe thing dan be done with 1 cmd, so is it a scrip? i dont think so, but it is kinda unnatural...and hoomade RJ, CJ, etc are ALWAYS better tan a scrip...
