My computer resarts on its own sometimes and I don't know why. Other times it freezes with short green vertical lines at the top of the screen and other times it works correctly. I am getting tired of rolling the dice everytime I try to join a game.

The green lines sound like a video card problem. do you have the correct drivers and the latest installed?

I have the latest drivers installed. I even tried older drivers just to see if they would work and I haven't had any success with them.

I get the green lines on my Geforce 3, and my dad gets it also on his (laugh) on board graphics from 4 years ago, I doubt it is the card. I find it happeneing the most, while winamp changes from mp3s to the cd and I start hl. That probably isn't the case for you, but it's what happens to me.

Just bring this back to the top, but adding extra info.

Direct 3d works great, it does slow down at times, but just about where software was at its best. My ping times are about 200 less when I am using d3d. There are some kind of vertical lines that flash when gl_ztrick is set to 1 but are just there when it is set to 0. Please help me so I can get in some better fragging.

What are some other factors that can affect the video? My problems are that it won't show the textures. My other question is what does USB have to do with video? and why would I need it enabled to have my agp card work correctly?

i had this same problem when i got my GeForce3. I found out it was because my card was overheating. so i just stuck another fan in there and presto, problem gone. Just put you hand on the side of the case and feel how warm it is. If its any hotter than a gentle warmth, put another fan in there.

I don't think it is overheating. The side of the case is cold, not even warm, cold as most metal.

Don't be too sure about that. A friend of mine had a SB Live card right next to his video card and their combined heat fried the SB Live card. You could try opening the case and see if more circulation of air helps and also look to see if the video card is right up against another card. Of course, you can't move the video card there is only one AGP slot. But you might be able to move the other card away from it.

Hope this helps,

try searching on google for your drivers...i've had great luck driver hunting.

Try the model...then the serial #'s ...you'll find it.

and get rid of that 4meg card...whats wrong with u? 64meg card are super cheap these days...32 meg'ers are like free
