Many people use Netgear. I use a Linksys. We have 4 computers hooked up to it and everything works fine. We started out just using a hub until the HL server was added. btw, I have DSL.

I use a linksys 4-port router/switch. Works great, even though we only have 2 computers hooked to it-kind of a waste.. heh

How about wireless routers. How do they work? Has anyone ever used one. You see I have my server com, my TFC com, and my com in garage to run my music to my stereo, you know when you are out their working on the bikes and chillin with the dudes. So I screwed up when I built the garage and didn't run a cable line to it. So that is why I ask about the wireless.

I don't think a wireless router is the answer for gaming. Maybe in a few more years, but right now...it's not stable or quick enough to satisfy me. I use a D-Link router with a 16 port switch attached to it to provide for all my computers. Works great...stick with wires for now.

{edit}You COULD use a wireless bridge to connect your computer in garage to your wired network...but it'll cost you (probably 300$ more than running a wired network).{/edit}

Love It

I believe the SpeedStream is a DSL modem/brigdge is not what you need. I use a Netgear, because Linksys had issues at first, but I hear they fixed those.

Whatever you go with, make sure you DL the latest firmware from the manuhacturer's Web site before you do anything else. It may save you tons of hastle.

I think most of the wireless routers have hard ports for wired connections as well as the access point wireless antenna. If you can find one that has that, you don't have to worry about the radio signal lag, but you can still have the wireless for the garage.

I have a (wired)4-port router an SMC barricade. It used to be one of the only four port NAT translation routers, but now there are several brands. I recommend checking out http:www.dslreports.com for info on comparing routers for high speed access.

Good luck,

FingerDemon
