Well I checked the Oscar results and was thoroughly disappointed by their selections for Best Movie among other categories. Lord Of The Rings was nominated for 13 awards and it won a measly 4! Cinematography, Makeup, Original Score, and Visual Effects. What the hell. A Beautiful Mind walked away with Best Movie, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress and Adapted Screenplay from book. What a load of garbage! The Oscar committee only rewards the fluffy fu fu drama crap movies when in fact the Oscars are supposed to be an award given to the poster boy of what movies should all strive to be. Has the Oscar committee got their heads up their asses? Yes. Online polls taken before the Oscar had LOTR winning Best Picture and other awards over all other movies it was ranked against in each respective category, and yet some other movie wins that didn’t even compare period.
I was glad to see that LOTR wasn’t completely shutout though and can’t wait till the next installment. Also it made me feel better to see Shrek win best animated film over Monsters Stink and Jimmy Sucktron:Boy Genius.
Note: I didn’t actually watch the Oscars, what’d you think I was insane or something!? I checked the results online.

It shouldn't have won, it wasn't the best movie of the year. A Beautiful Mind was. I'm sure one of the other movies will win best picture/best director, but not this year, since it was not the clear front runner.

I would agree Oldman. I think the most people view the various awards shows as a vouyeurism to check out the hot actress in what ever piece of cloth that they drap on or tape on. Granted I did not see Beautiful Mind, but that is because I just had no insterest in doing so. I do like dramas, but that movie just didn't do it for me. LOTR is one of my favorites. I think the best way to put it is that it was a complete movie. It had everything acting, music, drama, romance and action.
Well to put it bluntly this one of the many reasons I do not watch the award shows anymore. Hollywood is just way to absorbed with itself. I don't even read all that trash magazines about celebrity watch anymore and all this oh my God there is so and so. Who cares! They are just regular people just like you and me.
I think professional sports is heading in the same direction. These people are making so much money for waking up and acting like they try so hard. why don't they try roofing for a summer! I mean the cost of viewing or appreciating these people's work or talent is becoming way to expensive. I just take the attitude that I will see it on TV at some point so why bother paying good hard earn money for a bunch of blow hards. |

Yeag, LOTR should have won more then four, I didn't watch it either, but it was in the newspaper, and I'm glad Shrek won, that's a great movie
And what were those other two animated movies you talked about? I don't think that've come out in Australia yet.
I haven't seen A Beautiful Mind, and I don't really want to either, it looks hella boring.

According to my friends who went to see A Beautiful Mind the trailer was totally misleading and the movie was nothing that they had expected. These friends of mine were female and wanted to see the movie because 1. they thought it looked cool 2. it had Russel Crowe(spelling?) in it. The next time we talked they told me and my girlfriend to avoid it and saver our money for something worthwhile.
An article I read predicted problems for LOTR because it was a fantasy movie, and had no real main character. Well shit, if I wanted to see something non-fantasy I'd go out and do stuff in real life or watch it on the news. |

Yes there has been a real stink in holywood lately about fantasy and comedies getting no respect at award shows. Whether you Jim Carrey or not this has plagued him all his career. He even has tried to do more wholesome serious movie to try to get soem respect as an actor. |

Having seen Only LOTR and not Mind, I can't honestly say which is the best movie. I've read LOTR maybe 12 times now, (the first time over 20 years ago) being a big fan of Tolkien, so my judgment would most certainly be colored. I have to say though, that I was glad for Ron Howard. He Has brought us many great movies in the past that have'nt recieved the recongnition they deserve. Listening to Mike and the Mad Dog show the other day, they had Jeffrey Lions as a guest. He felt that Mind was going to win over LOTR because the Awards Judges are all Old School (and just plain old)and that they really just dont "get" LOTR. |
