I've recently come across some good information (or at least it was already written, so I don't have to write it) and have decide to post it. Please look through and attempt this fixes before you post your technical problems. It'll probably save time and make your half-life experiance better.

This is from a mailing list on http://www.techtv.com/ Check this site out, there a TV network totally dedicated to technology, pretty cool stuff.

***PC instantly restarts
Ryan in South Field, MI, has a PC that instantly restarts when he
plays Half Life. What can he do to fix this?

This is a very common problem with Half Life. It could be a software
or driver error.

Make sure you have the latest patch for Half Life. You can get it from
the game's website.

Update your video drivers. Get the WHQL-certified drivers from the
video card manufacturer's website. It that doesn't work, try the
Detonator drivers from nVidia: http://www.nvidia.com

Also, try testing your memory. There are a lot of memory testers
online. Search Google (http://www.google.com) for "memory tester."

By making sure you have the latest information, you insure that your problem hasn't already been solved once...

Yup mine has restarted automaticly before also. Usually the cuase was a driver for my video card that was causing problems. Or when I overclocked my computer too high.

Another thing would be using D3D or OpenGl. Mine will restart using D3D but work fine under OpenGl for some reason. Switch to some different drivers and now both work. Go Figure
