Some things I wonder about:

Will Half-life be around forever?
How much longer will it remain as popular as it is?
Will there ever be a sequel, or just never-ending mods?
Will some other game come along that will blow half-life out of the water?
Why am I asking these questions/Will I ever shut up?

Oh BTW, does anyone know when the new patch will be out?

AFI, fwiw.

1. No. Half Life will die at some point, because something better will come along, otherwise we would all still be playing Pong!
(or for the younger generation - asteroids)

2. My guess is a while. Or until a similar Hale-Life engine comes into play.

3.Probably both!!!

4. Absolutely! It is just a matter of time. And of course the new technology, which seems to come more rapidly everyday, will increase the playability and the realism with which games will be played. You ought to see some of the "games" that our armed forces play now. Eight years ago, I saw a military program that looked like TFC...only more realistic.

5. Because you have a mind. Probaby not, but who does....enough rambling already... :

Won't be around forever but certainly it's mod support and capability will keep it out for a LONG time.
What other FPS game do you know that can be turned in a full rally mod, or flight sim mod? There is none!
Add the (relative) easy of modding to valve's on going support to modding and you have a game that will last for at least half a decade more, perhaps more.

Half-life will eventually die out, except for a few hardcore gamers who will refuse to give it up and move to the next biggest thing. I know some serious quakers who still won't touch q3 (partially because they get owned, and they can't stand it) over their q2. All they ever play is q2, and it's not like they don't have a fast computer or good internet. However, the popular Half-life like game will not be Half-life, but some newer hopefully better iteration in the future. For now I'm enjoying Half-life while it lasts.

Half Life may die out and go away, but I plan to be one of those old Luddites that won't try something new. I will be playing at the Ville until they come to drag me away to a nursing home or a funeral home.

The Ville will live forever!!! (if you keep clicking on the banners that is)

HL will be around for a long time. Just look at all the mods available, then look at the mods that are still in development. As long as people keep buying HL, mods will still be made and servers run. Buying HL is like buy 20 games in one since there are so many mods and single-player episodes. This combined with the fact that HL can run on almost any modern computer tells you that this game r0x0r.
