I wouldn't know how good it is, but the best way to find out is to try it and see how your lag is after execing the config.

One other thing, what video mode are you running in? I believe that is part of my problem is video lag and not modem lag.

Things you might want to change/add:
delete fps_modem
delete fps_lan
reason: these commands are now outdated
change cl_allowupload to 1
reason: you want your sprays to be seen
add cl_rate 3000
reason: I think this helps minimize lag
Borg, the best gaming ISP used to be Mindspring (back in the day). They performed okay last time I used them December '01. Any high speed ISP will obviously be better. You asked, which ISP is best, the better question is which ISP is best in your area. You should try each ISP in your area and see which one is best if you really want to get the best gaming connection (yes, it's a lot of trouble.) If you are looking around, be sure to not only check out major ISP's (ATT, MINDSPRING/EARTHLINK, AOL) but also smaller local ones. Often they can be better. I've used Earthlink in the past and averaged pings from 250-300. Maybe some other current 56k users could help you out with your question.

To see if these tweaks have helped you, go into a server with your old configuration, watch netgraph (net_graph 1 in console), load up your new tweaked settings, and see if your connection gets better. If it has, success! If it hasn't you'll probably need to change the values of those 5 or 6 origial commands I talked about in my first posts. Hope this helps.

Sounds like your having a really terrible connection. *cough* AOL *cough*
change
cl_updaterate XX set to 12
cl_cmdrate XX set to 20
rate to 2499.00001
cl_rate to 2499.00001
This might help you George, might not. Try it and tell me if it helps you at all. My friend has Bellsouth and pings about 60-100 on TV1. You'll be happy if/when you get it.

You'll have to execute it every time (in console) you start playing unless you add this parameter to your half-life shortcut: "+exec filename.cfg" (without the quotes) This will tell Half-life to run your custom config file filename (or whatever you called it) every time you begin half-life.

The command line refer's to the shortcut that you use to launch TFC. Right click the shortcut and go to properties. Then go to the end of the target box. This is where you can type "+exec filename.cfg". This will load it everytime, automatically.
OR
You can access it from the console. You can use either the console at the start or in game (same thing actually). All you need to do is type exec filename.cfg and your good to go.
For either way make sure your filename.cfg is in your half-lifetfc folder.

P.S. Awwwh shucks.
