I have the voice chat set up and everyone can hear me clearly. I can hear all the sound of battle from footsteps to the call for medic. I can see the icon above a head and along the side of the screen when someone is talking......but I CANNOT hear them. They are only a soft murmur. If I turned my speakers up loud enough to hear the voices then I would blow them because the explosions would be way too loud.
Any suggestion? Am I alone with a voiceless world of medic shouts and nades exploding?

Have you run voice tweak (in your halflife folder)
There's a thing there to increase the volume of speech output

Yes....that is why others can hear me....but the problem is that I cannot hear when others talk to me.
I check all my sound levels and they are all un-muted and turned up.
Weird, huh? |

Very....I presume you also did the System Setup part of voice tweak (note: doesn't take you, as I first believed, to your sound control panel thing)
.....
Other than that I have little idea what could be wrong.
Obviously things cover up someone speaking, explosions, the vox thing announcing flag capture etc.
I don't think there's anything else, to my knowledge, that could cause it.

I think I found my own answer. In the original game's trouble shooting section of the manual it says that the sounds are controled by your computer's CD audio level. When I went to double check my audio level, I noticed that my Wave volume level was low so I raised it up.....and now I can hear.
Thanks for your help though.
