Hi comrades, Since downloading 1.1.0.8. i can't connect to the Ville or any other server.
Instead i get this:

UDP_Opensocket:port 27015 Setsocket IP_MULTICAST_LOOP: WSAENOPROTOOP
Could not get IPX Socketname
IPX Disabled
Reason WSAENOTSOCKET

Anyone else have this problem??
Contacted sierra they seem to have a hard time with this one. Any help much appreciated.

I see it every time I try connecting to anything, but I connect fine after that.

Perhaps check the Sierra or Valve support areas or Planetfortress for help.

Go into "My computer" to "Network" and click
"Dialup Adapter" then "Properties" then
"Advanced".. The scroll down and you will
see an Option called Use IPX Header Compression,
Make sure it is at YES...... 8-]

I believe IPX is only used on Novell networks. HL servers send UDP packets, so having IPX compression on wouldn't help a thing.

Well I see the same "Warning Message" when my game loads up and have no problem joining at all. the only reason that I posted what I did was because I just got done trying to Tweak my lousy 56k connection and was just in Networking and noticed what my IPX setting was on.. Hmm, letme go change it to No and see what happens 8-]

Well Robert you are right! I changed the IPX setting that I suggested a few minutes ago to
"No", then logged on to a game fine.. I have 3 lines of the same Warning as alway's before logging on to a server...

Onion, What type of 3dfx card do you own?

Whats wrong with cable, I don't have the problem you are having and I think from previous post those who have cable have good service. And don't by into that DSL is not shared bandwith like cable, because by the time the data gets to the local switch of your neighborhood its shared like a MOFO. I am having problems connecting sometimes, but with out any errors. I think this is just the patch having problems since i did not have these problems before.

I too see that every time I join
Still connects fine

Always seen that actually - even before the patch (cept the first line, that's new)

Yeah, I also always see that WSAENOTSOCKET thing, but I always connect fine. Hm, I wonder why.
