Yeah, I'm from Hotmail too, glad I already registered! I imagine this was done to prevent the forums from being spammed again, but I think it is unlikely that someone would go through the trouble of setting up an email address just to spam the forums.

Why not? I've got several dummy accounts to get junk mail sent to when I register products like Real Player and Flash/Shockwave. No reason I couldn't use one of them to create a spam account for the Ville. (not that I would) Personally, I like this new setup. Thanks Rob.

Did you read all of it?
In light of recent forum activities, persons wanting to post on the forums will now have to have a legitimate email address. This address cannot be from a "free" email provider, ie. Hotmail, Yahoo. Sorry, but the actions of a certain few spoiled the loose sign up restrictions. Current forum users don't have to worry about anything.

First I heard about this. Are you saying that if you have a legitmate e-mail address you do not have to register and if you do have to what do you do.

Well thank you very much cyroburn, I hope your mummy and daddy give you one hell of a spanking when they get the call from mindspring that their little boy was spamming forums. |

Yes, I read all of it. My point was more that I missed the ville by a couple months, and had I not registered when I did, I might not have been able too. I'm sure there are more like me...

I was responding to Goldom wondering if he was getting kicked for having a Hotmail account.

No you would be able to use that because you wouldnt have the email address if you were not paying for it by way of the DSL. I assume its easier to track if your registered with some sort of premium address.

That's how it works. One bad apple can spoil the bunch. In this case a couple bad apples have spoiled it for many. Don't blame TheVille, blame the bad apples. I think it's great to see how far Robert is willing to go to protect everyone here from that sort of behavior. And it only keeps you out of the forums! Not the servers ok! You can still come to TheVille and play (unless you're on mindspring) on the servers with a free mail account.

The only thing bad about this new system is that you can't change your profile and password and stuff like that, because it requires a valid email. But the positive effects outweigh the negative. Thanks Rob! |
