Anyone know how to get all the necessary programs and tools to work post-steam? Everything I found on the net is all still refering to the old C:\Sierra.... structure. I cant seem to find the right .exe file to get them all to work
I found tons of info in forums and tutorials, but it's all outdated.
It would be cool to have a dod_ville _________________ =(M)-(M)= Mal n the m00bs - TVC 06 finalists

Sorry, ya I'm talking about making a "ville" custom map. Theres like 8 different little programs and tools you need to download and properly configure to do it. Most of the info I found refers to the old C:\Sierra file structure, along with most of the programs. For instance, The main program Hammer editor, first sep of setup, unpack, the pak files. I can't even find ANY pak files! I'm definitly missing something.
I think all this stuff is obsolete ever since steam came along. _________________ =(M)-(M)= Mal n the m00bs - TVC 06 finalists

Dont you have to download the steam SDK? Sorry, I am really not up to date on mapping for DOD on steam. I suspect that nothing would change between steam and pre steam, the directory structure as far as I understand it has remained the same.
Have you visited the steam forums for current information? _________________

i think the only thing that hasn't gotten absolute is the WAD file. Concerning the old files especially with hammer...I'm not sure. Apparently some people have had issues with Hammer. If you have an old version try updating to one of the Hammer's on the link I gave you. _________________

I've been to Steampowered.com. The forums there do offer advice and tutorials. I'm just figuring out that you need the SDK. It's funny though. On all the tutorials not one of them say to download and install the SDK!LOL There's a lot of information that you are already supposed to know I guess. All the info I found just assumes that you have sdk running already. So, I'll get the SDK running and hope it all makes more sense then. Thank you for helping!! _________________ =(M)-(M)= Mal n the m00bs - TVC 06 finalists

Yeah you need the SDK to get all the tools and stuff. Most tutorials that you find are outdated, so they are based on the original HL setup... _________________

I'm 100% sure you can still make maps for dod. I can't seem to find an updated (post-steam) tutorial on how to make maps for dod. Everything posted recently from developers and steam is all about source. I tried loading and starting Source SDK, but it doesn't include 1.3 _________________ =(M)-(M)= Mal n the m00bs - TVC 06 finalists

OK I finally found the right page. Here it is after hours of searching
http://www.mardymouse.co.uk/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=1
An interesting point:
Quote: | The file structure of Steam means all of the files required for mapping (wads, models, sounds) are locked away and inaccessible. |
You need to "extract" all the wad files with GCFViewer, thats where I was getting hung up.
Now I got Hammer editor goin. I'll check back in a year when I finish the first room lol _________________ =(M)-(M)= Mal n the m00bs - TVC 06 finalists
