Rather than ruining a perfectly good thread of names and origins, I'll start one on synths coz a bunch of us out there like those things!

I was soooo going to buy a MicroKorg only for the vocoder!!
I'll stick to my Triton 76...just have to buy the sampler expansion board but I have to find a reason for getting one!
I also bought a little USB keyboard that plugs into the computer...no on board sounds, bloody useless for a gig (unless you want to bring a laptop!)
After touch is lousy but it's great for soft synths. Best soft synth is the Slayer VST...sounds exactly like an electric guitar! _________________

I was actually a little disappointed in the vocoder. The presets are kind of boring. You've got to tweak it a bit to get cool effects. For example, I want the effect on the Butthole Surfers, "Annoying Song". It's on their album, "Independent Worm Saloon". The best I can do is sort of a 80's Whodini robot voice thing. I want a more Donald Duck from hell. Kind of a pain to fiddle with.
Micro Korg is great because of its portabilty and can take batteries, so I take it camping and whatnot. It's a little tricky to get the arpegiator to sync via MIDI (like to a drum machine etc), but I think it is my program AcidPro. Acid kind of sucks but it is real easy to use and fairly cheap and intuitive.
Anyway that's my .15. _________________ Facts are meaningless. You could use facts to prove anything that's even remotely true!

Do you guys have any MIDI rack units? I find myself getting bored with the soundpacks included with synths and workstations. _________________ RIDE TEH WILLIE BUSS

When I'm composing, I use Acid pro only because the loop stuff is excellent. I'll probably buy Cubase sometime soon....but it's expensive!
I don't use the Korg seq at all...
Willie, I never keep the same instruments! Most of the original combis and progs have long since been changed. My Triton has dual arps which allows for messing with every part of the instrument...dump'em onto a SD card for later use! And even when playing live, the realtime controls on the Korg allow for on the fly instrument tweaking!
A friend has a Karma and it's amazing! I wanted one - but Triton has a lot more retro stuff. _________________

I use a Roland Fantom FA-76 as may main board, with a cheap casio keyboard as a slave to the Fantom via midi and a really old Korg as a 3rd. (The board is older than me). I would not mind getting ahold of a Fantom X-8 or a Moog (Mini or orginal) and would also like to eventually get a B3 and a Roland Keytar. I have the concert piano expcaion and am saving for the Ultimate Keys expansion. I also want to get the Special FX board, but it would have to be an SR-JV version and those are old and hard to find.
For recording I use Sonar 3 Producer Addition and for writting I use Finale 2004. My sound card is a Audigy 2 ZS Platnium so it has Midi, 1/4'', and Optical inputs on the front panel to record from the Fantom.
I will post pics of my set up some time soon _________________ http://www.barbertonrhps.com - The offical Website for Barberton's West Theater Rocky Horror Picture Show in Ohio

SO who here can program a synth?
I can do a digital no problem, but I have never had the pleasure of working with a analog. Though when I take Electronic Music in a semester or two, I get to play with an orginal Moog to learn how to program one
As for sounds themselves, I like both Hard and Soft leads. Not too big on pads and techno synths but do occasionally use them. I love mono synths for Portamento on them the most. I usually have my realtime controls set to Resonance, Modulation, Portamento Time, and LPF cutoff, and am constanyl playing with them esceaily during solos _________________ http://www.barbertonrhps.com - The offical Website for Barberton's West Theater Rocky Horror Picture Show in Ohio
