Find a good registry cleaner
http://www.registryoptimizer.com/

I use this and it works great. It's not free, but I was using anywhere's from 15-30% of my CPU all the time and now I'm back to 0-2% . When you delete things it leaves files in your registry that still load up at startup even though they are not there. Anyways I recommend this as I have systemmechanic 5 pro and it didn't even come close to cleaning the registry as good as this did.

Also you can use these they are free for spyware. They both look for different things so make sure you run both of them . Also make sure you update them before running them.

Depending on what antivirus you have there will be multiple proccesses running just for it even if you shut it down. The main thing is look at your CPU usage and see where it's at. If it's running in between 0-2% all the proccesses are not really bothering you. I have 45 running and I'm still in the 0-2% range .

There's used to be this website that would scan your processes and tell you which ones Windows need and which ones are for software (good or bad). I haven't used it since the Win98 days but I'm curious if they're still around. Lemme check...

EDIT

Wasn't able to find it but I did find a program called Wintasks http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/whitepapers/paper8/

it basically replaces Windows Task Manager and adds some neat features and descirptions for each process. Costs $50 though. I check and see if I can find one "cheaper" and let you know how it is.

I bought this program and it caused more problems than it fixed. Stay away from it.

Well you can shut down all the ATI stuff and at the bottom it looks like you have Yahoo messenger on. As for the others I'm not sure if you are using them or not ( aka AOL,Dit,all the HP stuffand Vet msg and so on) .

The ATI stuff only needs to be on if you are going to change a setting. You can do that just by restarting it .

I skimed through there and noticed one that I know doesn't belong.

"Services.exe"

Others I don't reconize but are probably just apps you have running. Try closing some of the stuff in your taskbar by the clock.

Download spybot and adaware and run it. Should help some. Also close everything and at the cmd prompt, type in "netstat". Will show you any open connections so if something doesn't match up you probably have some sort of trojan or something calling home.

Even with all these programs I still rebuild my gaming PC at least 4 times a year to keep it running smoothly. Might be something to look at as a last resort.
