Has anyone played this before? I played the original when it first came out like 5 years ago. It definitely needed some work. I guess the came was redone and released last year. Anyone try it out? I saw they're offering 14 days free (you can even download the client for free) and give it a try. Might have to try it.

I played it from its original release for about 2 years or so, then about 4 months ago tried to play it again but my system isn't up to it.

I loved it when I could play it. I almost exclusively played fighter pilot in it, the ground war was too slow for me. The game has a VERY steep learning curve to it, and the game is not like Dod where you jump immediately into the action, it can take an hour or more of getting into position before anything happens on the ground. In the air, if you can find an available aircraft near the action you can be there in minutes, though it's safer to gain some height before entering the fray - fighter pilots in that game have got more sophisticated these days and they prefer to BnZ (Boom'n'Zoom) from over 10,000 feet on targets lower than them than get into a turn fight.

But I digress.
It's definitely worth getting the 14 day trial to see where things are at these days. Essentially the gameplay remains as it did 5 years ago, although the actual rules governing where the fight is, how to capture a town etc has changed (gone are the days of people capping a string of towns simultaneously). If you do try it, join a squad, even just temporarily - you can be recruited in game these days whereas before you had to enter a squad code on a website. Squads will be your best bet for learning the mechanics of the game, providing good communication services for you etc.

I would recommend not playing with less than a gig of ram (preferrably gig and a half), processer should be whatever the equivalent of a 1.7 Intel M is, must have a good graphics card too.

I was playing with a 1.3M, half gig of ram, not too great graphics card and while I could fly around fine with few people around, once I got over a town with action going on, that was it - jerk-o-vision flying which usually ended up with me flying into the ground, unable to control the plane.

Cool, I'll give it a try. They have it now where you can play offline and just practice flying/driving and such.

1 question though. If I'm in a truck driving, can I get out? Haven't figured that out yet. Nothing under they keyboard mappings or anything.

If you're the driver of a truck or any member of a tank's crew I believe you still cannot, however if it is possible, it'll be your enter/leave vehicle key which was 'j' back in my day.
