Just a little note that may help someone someday. To install maps go to:
http://www.planetfortress.com/jmcstfmapzone/tfcinstall.htm
find installation of maps:
follow instructions given maybe even print them:
To check if it did work try:
Click on your TFC desktop Icon
Click Multiplayer
Click Lan Game
Click Create Game
Click onto whichever map you just installed
Click OK
This will take you into the game map by yourself and you can have try have a look around.
If this is not correct would someone please add corrections.

Almost all of the time this works, but there are some maps you can't see in LAN even though they are installed correctly. Fishburgers is one of these for me. I have it installed, and can play it online, but I doesn't appear in my LAN game map list. When in doubt, try to find a server running the map in question.

Then the map is probably for a different mod, and just ran in TFC. For those maps you should be able to load them by typing in the console "Map <bspname>". For TurkeyBurgers, it's "Map Turkeyburgers" You can also load hl maps. Bounce and crossfire are fun ones in TFC. |

I use winace for my compression utility. It's alot easier to install maps too. If the zipped file is already organized for you for where map files and sounds should go, all you need to do is zip it to your halflife folder and it automatically places the files in the correct folder (anyone followed that ) pretty handy dandy.
