Just out of curiousity...What would a monitor driver be used for?
I just hooked up my monitor and it has worked with no problems.

Today I cleaned my room and for a CD from the packaging that had a montior driver on it. I instlal it and I dont notice anything different... just curious what its for.

Well it is just used by your computer to operate your monitor. Windows probably installed a default Windows XP driver that usually works fine. If the monitor has any special functions, the the drivers that came with it will allow you to use them.

What Stevo says but also it helps if you have had to much to drink, It will make sure your monitor gets home safely.

Dont confuse this with a windows driver who is usually a drunken lunatic hellbent on crashing your monitor and the computer attached to it...beware...

My monitor drivers aren't compatible with windows x64 and I can't run in 1024x768 without extreme distortion.

Mostly monitor drivers just tell the system the maximum resolution and refresh rates your Monitor can handle. It tends to have windows hide those that can damage your system.

can't windows drivers detect that? Mine detects those, but it doesn't have drivers.

XP has a generic driver it uses that works for most monitors, there are some monitors however that dont register correctly with XP. For instance, I had a 17 inch KDS monitor that wasnt detected correctly without the drivers from the CD, but I have a 19in Gateway monitor that they dont even produce a driver for on Gateways site because the XP driver detects it settings correctly.
