Config's gone - steam weirdness

Anyone know what could cause this?
At some unknown point while I was in the UK, steam deleted everything related to every steam game I have with the exception of my server favourites. All my condumps were gone, all configs, my custom maps, a map I was working on in hammer etc.

The only thing I can figure is perhaps there's some weird thing that it deletes things after so many days inactivity (didn't really play dod or anything at all in 10 days).

Any ideas?

Seriously Greebo, I was gone for over 3 weeks for training and vacation in Nov and it did not delete any of my stuff, so something else must be going on.

I do know that I have my autexec.cfg and several other cfg files as read only, because if I change my name in game, next time I start the game it reverts back.

Yeah that is very odd unless when they ran it through the scanner at the airport the magnets caused a issue.

I don't think the airport scanners would selectively delete the Steam files...

Well I'm an idiot.

I was doing a virus check today and noticed that the missing files flash past in the files being checked. So I did a search and found out I'd somehow managed to copy my entire profile's folder to my desktop without noticing. Very weird.

Anyhoo - it's all back now, which is nice.
