Im looking at getting a panasonic plasma and i have a question about progressive scan DVD players.
Would it be better to get a DVD player that upconverts the res to 720p or to just get a 480p player and have the TV do the resizing?
the players that I looked at that upscale the res all have outputs of HDMI(digital) and I think the ones that don't upsacle it all use 3 component video cables (analog).
HDMI gives a better quality picture but i would think the the TV would do a better job at resizing the res from 480p instead of using an already resized 720p.
I guess HDMI would be better, anyone else have an idea of what should better?
also, please don't turn this into a Plasma vs LCD vs DLP discussion. The viewing angles of DLP isn't good enough for the way the room is set and the picture quality is better on a Plasma then an LCD and the current gen plasmas have improved the burn in problems. _________________ R.I.P. Blue |

Well...I'm no expert, but i know HDMI is the best configuration you can get right now, better than DVI, and better than Component, and WAY better than composite/coaxial. Although you may be wrong on one part...Component i believe is digital, not analog, but oh well.
You are right about Plasma's being best for viewing angles, and every brand has improved on the burn's, save one. Samsung is still having problems.
I would just let the tv do the resizing, if you can afford it, go HDMI (cables run $50-80).
(Please take my advice as mere suggestion, not advice, as i said before i'm no expert. Please do not make a decision based merely on my information ) _________________

component and VGA are analogue while HDMI and DVI are digital.
I guess the HDMI dvd player would be the best choice. The HDMI players are about 100$ more but theres no point of getting an expensive tv and not using the best equipment for it. _________________ R.I.P. Blue |
