i think honestly it has about a year maybe a little less in its life left...i believe christmas time will wipe out 50% of the people who play it now as teenagers and regular folks can justify buying a new rig to play video games more at christmas than any other time and finally have the option to actually run DOD source at a dect FPS...also AMD processors are going down in price almost every week. Also next year i expect TFC 2 to emerge its head...Duke Nukem Forever...and some other hardcore games that will force people to upgrade if anything processors before vid cards. Also i think next year you will see lots more programs being written for Dual Core 64 bit machines and finally doesn't windows new OS come out next year and isn't it going to take a hardcore rig to run it...thus that will also force people to upgrade.

i do not however see the ville losing all its DOD 1.3 servers for a long time...perhaps there will be a general phasing out but..i don't see them all going away until we get no one on them 24/7.

I'm sure it will be around for along time. Atleast untill computer prices drop again so people can upgrade to play the Source mods. You have to have a pretty stout computer to play mods like DoD Source and alot of people don't have the extra $$$ to upgrade there computers to be able to run it smooth enough to be able to enjoy it. I'm sure when tehy get alot of the kinks worked out in Source more and more people will switch over, but untill then DoD 1.3 will survive .

I think DoD 1.3 will be around for a while. DoD Source and DoD 1.3 have many differences in gameplay as well as graphics. So there are many people who actually prefer the old game to the new one. I think that the gameplay in Source is actually closer to that of Counter-Strike Source. I still play both games on a regular basis because the gameplay is better in DoD 1.3 even though the graphics are better in Source.

1.3 is going to be around for a while. For now source is better but 1.3 is more fun.
Valve needs to fix the accuracy issues and provide more maps for source. After all that and people eventually upgrading you’ll see more people on source.

People still play CS 1.6 and hate CS Source and I know there are a lot of people who feel the same about DoD. I'm not a huge fan of DoD Source really. Maybe when I get my new processor my feelings will change lol. It just requires WAY too much. I don't understand it. CS Source will run everything on high with a minimum of 30 fps. DoD Source will run at 30 fps if I'm lucky. No matter what my gfx settings are at it runs the same. Like crap.

After only 6 years of waiting!? About DOD1.3, I see it sticking around for a while. Although I like to play DOD:S, I still feel at home when I play 1.3.

I didnt even like DoD S that much. I have a computer that can run it without any problems, and I choose not to. And if you compare it to CS, well tons of people still play 1.6, and some play S. Gonna happen the same way in DoD.

DoD has come a long way. Never expected it to still be so popular after seeing the game back when it was in initial beta. It has a couple of more years anyway I think. A lot of people have PCs that can run CS/DoD and don't feel the need to upgrade as long as those games remain popular.

If valve had released dod:s for free like I was hoping then the situation would be different. I paid for HL2 and don't see why I should have to pay for dod:s. I have no interest in paying for the game with better graphics as long as the classic version still has a fanbase.

They didn't make a source version of TFC. It has to mean that they're still working on TF2 although I never hear anything about it anymore.

Too bad there wasn't a source version of Firearms. That was a fun mod. Oh and is there a way to find out what the most played mods of HL/HL2. Few years back you could find that info using theclq.com. They don't exist anymore.

Yea I remenber clq, below is what I have found to be close to what clq used to do. This list all mods not just HL and monitors all players, check it out and enjoy. Takes a bit to load due to the large database they have.

I agree but people are overestimating the amount of people not playing because of their hardware. 20,000 players played DoD:S in the first day, now anywhere from 2000 - 4000 people are playing it at any given time.

If you take a look at this: http://www.steampowered.com/status/game_stats.html

You'll see that 1.3 is actually beating Source in player numbers, and has been for some time now. Source doesn't offer much to newcomers (few maps, CoD-ish gameplay), and it doesn't offer much to long time players (shallow gameplay, terrible accuracy, weak weapons)...

And the player minutes / month are just about double in favour of 1.3 even though the player numbers aren't double, that's saying people are playing 1.3 for longer periods of time than Source.
